this pharmacy was discussed extensively on the sv fb group and all agreed it is a scam.

the staff went and changed my dollars for me and didnt charge me
People complain about anything on facebook, its not a scam if you go in there and pay in Riel like they have posters all over the shop saying they only accept Riel,
if paying for something in the countries local currency is all people have to complain and worry about... 1st world problems...

i do think using $ for big transactions is much more practical though aye
I have some issues with Reil.
1. The notes can be confusing. the 5,s and 10's are almost the same. As are the 100's and 500's. I find I'm always staring to see which is which when at night.

2. I have been caught with the old 5 for 10 scam on one or two occasions. Normally I just put it down to me making a mistake, but I have been certain once or twice too.

3. The locals normally love taking dollars and giving you back Riel. They make in the transaction. You may not think it worth it, but they do.

4. When I have changed 100$ at a changers, I got back to find out that one of the bundles of 10,000's was in fact 5,000's with 2 tens on the outside.

5. When you buy in the chain shops or supermarkets, garages, etc you will get charged anything from 4100 to 4400 per dollar if you pay in Reil. This is of course another tax on top of the barang tax.

6. If this country ever went to the Reil it would be fucked. Maybe they'll change to the Yuon though.
it just takes practice, i do have to double take sometimes though just to be sure,

but then if thats the case it works both ways, when a local vendor or anywhere other than a supermarket/garage is only charging you 4000r to the dollar its the seller that is losing out and not you....
in general, i find asking how much something is in khmer, they always reply in Riel, to which i pay and usually get local prices or at least a very fair price
when i used to ask for things in english or if they replied in Riel before my khmer numbers were good, they would adjust the cost in $$ and the price rounded up and not so good

Luigi wrote:"Fuck the USA" Ok, I can go with that. When I lived in Panama, guess what US$, when I lived in BVI's, guess what US$, I left there for Belize, guess what US$ was king. In Nicaragua everyone wants US$, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, same same. Canada, eh. no care. Venezuela circa 1985 (yeah I know right) USA fukun $. Barbados, St. Kits, St. Martin, all gods saints want US$. O:-) Why you ask. Because it it still the currency of the world. etc.etc.etc. Wake up Jamie, the count is 9. :stir:

have you been to mexico? its always better to use Peso over the dollar, just like here, if you only use dollar you will end up paying more for shit, and who really gives a shit about the rest of those countries???

Read my post, I didn't say the US dollar was #1, I said that the US is #1 (the only super power left in the world, but with Obama-Iben-Lying for 8 years, Russia is catching up.) I love using the US dollar here as I lose nothing when I withdraw money from my US bank. I feel sorry (almost) for people from Australia and Canada as they are losing big time in money rates. BTW/ What currency is a barrel of oil quoted in, its sure isn't in Kuwait Donar or Euros.

USD is the number 1 reserved capital of the world, thats why the stability, euro was touted to replace USD as reserved capital but that didnt happened, and fucking renminbi tries to inch their way in as well, fucking no chance in the world!

What 5's and 10's?
5000 & 10,000
I thought that, but then what does this mean?:
As are the 100's and 500's.
100,000 and 500,000? I've never heard of those notes. Maybe JSP is talking about 100/ 500 Riel price discrepancies though? That would be terribly interesting.
Come on JSP, please let us know about this 200 Riel banana overcharging mafia before we all get extorted to death. Please buddy?

Well, it used to be in pounds but that's another story. Imperialists rule huh?

BTW I wouldn't go bragging about that considering the games the US has been playing with its demand for oil over the years.
