Post by LaudJohn »

Hi All,

They are cheap and many types the rub is they need sim cards and you have to pay for data plan each month. They work by sending SMS messages to you with their location (cheap data plan 1 SMS/hr=720 SMS/month) or they can use internet connection (more expensive data plan) and keep location updated on a website that you can access.
Also you need to power them with something other than the bike battery or just disconnecting the battery turns them off.
On a bike like a Scoopy there are limited hiding places them some thieves know their business well they even know to check inside the handle bar tubes for trackers.
I was going to put one on my bike but decided that would just be something else that would be stolen with the bike they just take out the sim card. I ended up just adding a hidden start button so they can't just use master key and drive it away but my bike probably 3x as heavy as a Scoopy so little chance they will just carry it off.

Agree with Beaker. We had one on my click but they connected it to the battery and it just drained it in 2 days. We took it off in the end.

What’s wrong with an alarm?

My simple mate (the Belgian) bought his “wife” a new Dream. Got stolen two days later. He bought another. Got stolen that night.
You can see a trend here...,

Unlikely since she put $500 of her own money into the bike plus the proceeds of the sale of her existing scoopy.

Sorry, English isn’t my native language.

I wasn’t implying your partner does that. It was just an anecdotal story.

An alarm is very effective.
I saw some for sale in SIhanoukville by some Russian (who has lots of random stuff for sale) I’ll see if I can find a link.

Found it in my saved link!

He might be able to source a tracker.

You need tracker and alarm.
Tracker costs $20 on chinese websites.
or buy an old mobile and a powerbank, then use an app as
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... metracker2

The best one that I found and use in my car.

You could also just use "find my phone" on any Android device. Connecting it to a Powerbank is a good idea

It’s also a bit of a pain to constantly check and charge it. GPS trackers are ok but you’ll have to buy credit after 7 days.

And anyway thieves only like Dreams and Mooves now so you should be ok. Non?
