Motorbike stolen. Need new! Where can I pay by CC?

Post by Joakim »

The story is that our 10+ yers Honda Wave 100 got stolen last week. Afternoon at 138. Normally a safe area but...
Searching around here and there and around friends. The conclusion is to buy a NEW bike.

I need a 125 for going around PP. (BIG boy and the old wave 100 was a little bit weak.)

It has to be a Honda. My wife is VERY clear about that.

Thinking of a Honda Click 125. New at the Honda dealer 26K. Way overpriced but...

If I found a NEW Honda Wave 110 it could be an alternative. But Honda dealer have only 100.

The question is; Can I buy a new Click somewhere in PP and pay with CreditCard? I have Visa, MC and AmEx.

Paying with CC is far better for me than transfer money. Points to my FrequentFlyer and about 2-4% cheaper than Cash.

Surely you actually meant $2.6k (2600) right? Who in their right mind would pay $26K (26,000) for a moto !?

Sorry, can't answer your question about payment, but surely official dealerships would accept credit cards.

I don't know so please don't quote me. But I would have thought Honda would have excepted CC. And also have better chance at getting a new model. Does it have to be brand new, or could you consider a very good used one.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Get a GPS fitted to your new one, just in case.

Just to derail the thread a bit, what do y’all think about buying vs renting? I was surprised to discover how cheap a monthly rental is, and seems like it’d take the stress out of worrying if your bike’s gonna get nicked.

You're right. Renting a bike in Cambodia is very cheap but they take your passport and you don't get it back until they get their bike back in the same condition you received it.

I went through this many years ago for a very different reason. I can tell you...unless something has changed in five years (very possible), that no one will sell you a bike on a CC. I tried everywhere. Had 30 grand about to evaporate and wanted to spend it before floating it off to bankruptcy court. I had luck...but it wasn't buying the bike. I shopped around, and found a kind hotel owner willing to run up 1800$ in room stays and pay me cash back. I got lucky. This is not the norm.

On a side note, if any of you find yourselves down and out....there is a gold shop in Bangkok which will sell you gold on credit card, then buy it back from you and pay cash. It's an ordeal...have to change cash, travel, etc but it helped me out once. Went up with 87$ and came back with 13,000$.

If your rented bike gets nicked you will still be held liable with your passport as a collateral. Far from recommended.

Why all the drama ? Go to a shop , point to the one you want , - i would suggest any honda dream ,
pick out what license plate number you like from the choices and give them your credit card .
That’s what i did , they charged me an extra $100 dollar for using the credit card , they said that’s what they have to pay .
I wondered why but TiC ( used to be TiT ).
I use the credit card ( or ABA pay ) almost anywhere i go these days and save heaps of ATM charges , but i wouldn’t like to think about the conversion fees if my card wasn’t in USD’s

Can you not get insurance for it?
