Medical: Blood tests for tropical diseases/infections
What's the go with getting blood tests for tropical diseases/infections in PP, does one need to see a GP or can one simply rock up to (say) the Pasteur Institute and purchase the tests? First-hand experience especially welcome, but old wives tales and gossip also appreciated.
Bodge: This ain't Kansas, and the neighbours ate Toto!

I wouldn't trust the locals on that one. SOS clinic is definitely able to do that, but it'll rip a deep, deep hole in your pockets. The chance that you have gotten a tropical disease if you are living in PP is low to non existent anyway (microorganisms of all kind seem to get swiftly killed off by all the toxicants in the PP air) .
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Firstly, if you think SOS will rip a "deep, deep hole in your pocket" then you should probably reevaluate your income stream and budget.Francis wrote:I wouldn't trust the locals on that one. Secondly, tropical diseases run rampant in Phnom Penh or have you never heard of dengue fever.
So, in summary, you (not a doctor) are advising someone who is not well to not seek medical advice because in your opinion is a waste of money.
Fucks sake, even the con doctor Gloria had more empathy for her patients.

Probably. But I found $ 500 for a blood test a bit steep (and that is already 10 years ago)Digg3r wrote:Firstly, if you think SOS will rip a "deep, deep hole in your pocket" then you should probably reevaluate your income stream and budget.
Yap , I've heard about it. All I'm saying is, that it is unlikely to get it (children maybe)Digg3r wrote:Secondly, tropical diseases run rampant in Phnom Penh or have you never heard of dengue fever.
I don't-what I'm saying is that you should check the symptoms you got carefully before you spend too much money.Digg3r wrote:So, in summary, you (not a doctor) are advising someone who is not well to not seek medical advice because in your opinion is a waste of money.\
