Marrying a Cambodian girl in another country
Re: Marrying a Cambodian girl in another country
What is involved in getting children citizenship in the fathers country if the parents are not married? I think this may not be the same in all countries.
If the family wants to live in Cambodia for some time, then move to his country, I think the only option is getting married. Am I wrong?

It's easier if you're married but starts with simple things like is your name on the hospital and sangkat birth certificates, were you both in the same country at the time of conception, what's the history of the relationship, and so on. Fill in the forms, provide the documents.
Yes you're wrong.
I know families that weren't married that migrated out of Cambodia.
Where are you from? Instead of asking the forum, you should ask your immigration dept.

A fixer helps greatly with getting married in Cambodia. Lots of paperwork issues that otherwise can’t be resolved - the quintessential government need for original everything when western governments deal in online or certified copies, for example, the fixer can smooth over.
Well worth the money paid.

Yes it is! Especially if neither you or your partner were previously married.

The issue is, like you said, Cambodian Embassies abroad, and even the MoFAIC in Cambodia, will not notarise them for the purpose of marriage abroad.
Yes, they (Sanghat) still provide them, whatever the reason you need it.
In Hong Kong you won't need any notarized documents from Cambodia.

I feel with NewKid. I stumbled at the first hurdle.
I got a residency letter from my (small, inexperienced) Sangkat, the same format I used to get my driving license extended, to apply for a police clearance at the ministry of Justice. Luckily I sent a picture ot the letter (Procheck ti Roomnow) to the ministry of Justice to ask them if it was correct before embarking on the 10 hour trip to visit them, and it turned out the format my Sankat used is incomplete and insufficient to apply for a police clearance.
The ministry was kind enough to sent me the correct format, which I presented to the Sangkat. They (the clerk) made a new document, and messed it up again. Then the ministry sent me a complete document, with all the details filled in and the Sangkat boss refused to sign a document made outside of his jurisdiction.
How I love dealing with the local competent authorities...... To be continued in 4 weeks....
Not sure a fixer would have solved this matter by the way....

Way less than two grand total I don’t live in the KOW and can’t afford to stay in for months on end to wade through the joy that is Cambodian bureaucracy. I can afford to work a little extra to pay for the fixer to smooth impossible situations.cptrelentless wrote:If you've got a few grand to burn, then yeah.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 7:58 am A fixer helps greatly with getting married in Cambodia. Like when the uppidity little underling accuses me and the missus of being ‘traffickers’ and proudly proclaiming that any document can be faked and thus only he can determine if a document is genuine or not. And then summarily dismisses the entire application in front of all the military officers.
A month later, full paper to give to the Sangkat was issued.
It may not be the way for everyone, but it was the way that best worked for me.

1/ In regards to citizenship - if one of the parents is an Ozzie citizen, the child is automatically eligible for Ozzie citizenship. Some paperwork is needed, but basically it can't be denied.
2/ No, you don't have to be married to get your partner into the country. It does help, but isn't mandatory. Lots of paperwork required here though and quite a significant expense to get a permanent residency visa. Its also definitely NOT guaranteed either.
