Marriage Documents needed for Barang

Post by bvanfossen »

From my reading I gather I only need to bring over my passport to get married. The local embassy will supply the other documents.

Is this correct? Just want to make sure before I fly back!!

Thanks guys :beer3:

I have no idea, but I think the word 'supply' may be the wrong choice of word.

Sorry, idk.

You'll need proof of income, character, single status. If your embassy here can provide those things, you're probably fine. Many embassies don't/won't.

I wouldn't rely on an embassy to do anything other than help with renewing passports or help to contact your next-of-kin if you inadvertently snuff it. You need to get a certificate of non impediment which shows you are not currently in a marriage.
Proof of income too, it needs to be over $2500 a month as far as I know.
I'm not sure if it's a requirement, yet, but it would be no harm to get a Certificate of No Criminal Conviction while you are there either.

Read the guide I've posted several times, it explains everything...you need more than just your passport.

I think he'd be better off just bringing his passport. He'll save himself a fortune.

I did know about the income, forgot to type it.

As far as non-impediment the US embassy website says this: "Please note that the U.S. Embassy also has blank affidavits of single status for the convenience of U.S. citizens seeking to get married in Cambodia."

Is that not enough, I need to bring a get a copy and bring it?

Thanks for the help everyone!

You should get that done in the US, don't rely on getting it done from abroad. The embassy are just giving you an application form, and if there is an inconsistency and your documents are in the US you might have issues. What's the deal with getting married anyway? I thought you were only over here for a month, what's that about?

Ok I just read this from the government website:

"Some countries require an affidavit by the parties as proof of legal capacity to enter into a marriage contract. No such government-issued document exists in the United States. You may execute such an affidavit at a U.S. embassy or consulate."
