Looking for new mini freezer

Post by A10 »

Had 4 failures in the last 3 months, want to buy a new name brand freezer this time, something like this, maybe a touch bigger.

I work Sun-Sun though so I have very little time to go shopping around. Does anyone know of a store that carries name brand mini freezers? Panasonic, Sharp, Lock & Lock? etc. Last time I went shopping I only saw the floor chest model freezers which are way too big for me, which is why I bought used models in Russian market the last two times, which very quickly failed and the subsequent repairs also failed.

I know they also have combo refrigerator/freezer units but I prefer a standalone unit.

Any tips or advice appreciated.

Thanks!

Having owned a motel with all rooms having those small fridges, I can tell you they are more trouble than they are worth. There is no automatic defrosting in them and you will find they continually ice up which means you have to turn off the power, wait for it to defrost , clean up the water off the floor , then restart.
I ended up taking my own advise as below,,,,

My advice is to get the smallest fridge / freezer you can find .
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I appreciate the advice and understand where you're coming from, but I actually have shyed away from the auto defrost versions because of the power draw when the heater is activated and I have no control of when that happens. Since the fridge and freezer are both on battery backup inverter circuit, I've gone to both "straight" fridge freezer units so I could run them, my evap cooler and my computers on a smaller inverter. If I hadn't, I would need an extra 400-800 watts of power that I didn't have.

Sorry, long story short, I don't mind defrosting things myself and am used to it. But thank you.

If you buy a full size freezer, it will probably cost less than double what a mini freezer costs. It is up to you if you want one.

I don't really have the space for a chest freezer as I'm staying in a small apartment and this thing sits on a countertop.

Bump, anyone seen one while shopping around? Preferably name brand, but I suppose I'll go new and Chinese made if I have to.

I know there's benefits to other models and better prices, but I already have a standup fridge so I only need a freezer at the moment.

Finally got a day to go shopping, and couldn't find anything. Panasonic, LG, Samsung, etc...no mini freezer. I didn't have the option of getting a new standup unit because there's no space in my place, so I'll have to stick with my rigged up freezer for now, which has the thermometer and a wired the compressor to an on/off switch with a small 5 amp circuit breaker. Seems I can't get it lower than -4 C anyway even running it all night long, so I'll just leave it on it's dedicated breaker.

Seems to still work, but I'll keep my eyes out for a new model if I see one.

I appreciate the link, I just personally don't like buying things I can't see in person first. I'll only order it if I can see it first and then be assured it's the same thing I'm ordering afterwards. So if someone else wants to order one and I have a look at it later, :)
