Obviously that is outrageous but I also learnt one thing in Cambodia about staff. No matter what you pay them, no matter how good the conditions of their employment, they'll still be lazy, dishonest and steal.

I wish I could disagree....
I started paying my cleaner $150 a month for a 6 day a week. Then there was all those problems with the factory worker asking for $150 a month ( which I think is fair). So I increased her wage to $200 a month to make her feel valued .
She still has days off , when I come back, i often find her a sleep in front of the Tv with the AC on,steals money ($50 was the max, never more than her wage, she see it as an advance ).
With all those complaints I still keep her , something to do with it,s better the devil you know...
What can I do , get angry (doesn't help) fine her for her lateness (doesn't work ) or tell her if she works without fail I will help her buy a scoppy and she will pay me back over the next year or two. Works quite well. she has been good for a while...
I was born with nothing , and I still have most of it left.

I think when I return to Cambodia I'll look for cleaning work. I don't steal, I DO the work and I don't think bathroom duck is the total cleaning solution. I do ceiling fan blades too :P
I can also fix most plumbing problems.

Six day week! Do you live in a castle?

I was always surprised at guys in Thailand hiring cleaners, as they lived in such small spaces with tiled floors. And that Thai cleaners are blind to dirty showers etc. In the UK, your cleaner usually does the ironing and dishes. But in Asia, laundry and eating out are cheap.

I think it's great that you pay someone to come to your home, watch karaoke, use air con and steal anything and everything.
