Many thank guys but i'm not trying to apply for a loan. I need the figure of total unofficial money lenders in Cambodia market (especially pawnshop licensed), we're trying to analyse the market. If you guys know where to get these insights, please let me know, really appreciate.

I'm sure there are no "official" numbers for "unofficial" lenders. Hell, just look on every other electric pole and it will have a sign from some person/company/organization offering loans from $100-$50,000. If you really want a number I can guarantee you it is somewhere north of 10,000 lenders and/or loan sharks plus a few dozen banks/MFI's and at least a couple hundred pawn shops and thousands of phone shops who will loan you $10 - $1,000 if you leave your phone a collateral....the list is endless.

great pos., to lend= give out the cash. it sounded like he needed to barrow= receive cash. Although the veil has been lifted that is not what he needs.

Thanks for sharing the insights, I guess i will have to figure it out somehow then.

In my opinion, the financial institution can be segmented into 3 categories: banks, MFIs/MDIs and alternative lenders. Banks and MFIs quatity easier to find out, for the others, maybe there is a government body which records the number of license government has issued and status of operation?

Many individuals make money by offering short term loans, no registration or license at all. Also, groups of Khmer get together and put money into a fund that is then lent out, can't remember what it's called, but again completely unofficial.

I believe in the UK we call these Credit Unions. Many people turn to these as the interest rates are often cheaper. Completely above board so long as it operates within the law.
