Learning Khmer

Post by chiltern »

I have been a regular visitor to Cambodia for the last eight years but to my shame my Khmer vocabulary has barely passed hello, please, thank you and counting from 1 - 100, I have always put this down to the fact that I was never exposed to other languages at school or indeed any type of studying at all. I can get by in most European languages as I can understand the script and at least make a stab at pronunciation.

I think it is about time that I don't hide behind this excuse as the Khmer family I visit are so patient with me and I want to show them that I do want to converse with them in Khmer however simple that might be.

I will be back in Phnom Penh in October for a two months and again in Late January and would welcome any sensible suggestions of who or where I could receive some lessons.

I think JacobCambodia can suggest you a very good khmer tutor. He charge is pretty reasonable.
បើសិនធ្វើចេះ ចេះឲ្យគេកោត បើសិនធ្វើឆោត ឆោតឲ្យគេអាណិត។

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.
