Re: Landmarks and General stuff to do in Phnom Penh
This thread has me baffled.
A member on holiday posts his experiences, all positive, and is accused of posting a joke thread, told he does not know what he is talking about etc.
Just because some people live in dirty, rubbish strewn streets does not mean that this member can only post about the negative side of PP.
If you want dirty areas, try the Crater district in the Yemen. Goat carcases and offal strewn in the gutters, rats openly controlling large areas where the locals dump their trash or perhaps Tyumen in Siberia where it is so cold they simply dump their rubbish in a town heap, pour diesel all over it and set fire to it. The smell and pollution dos not even bother them.
It's all relative. Geordie has found a place that he likes and has posted good comments about it. What's wrong with that? If he had said what a dump or how bad it was you would probably attack him for that as well.
Talk about trying to drive members away from a forum.......

Why ? This is not an attack on the OP. Anyone who lives in PP will tell you that it is not a model of cleanness and hygiene. When tourists post information that is false, however well intentioned, then surely it's a good thing if expats reply with true life experience ?TOG wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 3:23 pm This thread has me baffled.

I don't get you TOG, you want to come and live here, but you dont want to listen to people here. We don't care if the situation is worse in Yemen, the fact is that Cambodia is not clean. There is a lot of work to do to clean up the cities and towns in particular, and it's not going to get done by pretending that everything's fine.

it's attitudes like this that piss people off. Your own post accuses Geordie of posting false information, it's not false, it's as seen from his eyes in the area he is staying. Geordie says nice things and is promptly shot down by people who are ashamed of where they live. If you think it is so bad, why live there?Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 8:00 pm I don't get you TOG, you want to come and live here, but you dont want to listen to people here. Comments such as..(the last one completely patronising)
Honestly I didn’t bother reading after you said you like Phnom Penh for its cleanliness. This is a joke thread right? Haha you got us!
I know how Cintri garbage collection works. Do you know about their strikes the past years? The last time I think it was because they could no longer steal petrol after a shift.
Cleanliness? The city is filthy. Garbage piles up in the street. It's only clean if you're from Naples.
I normally advice tourists to listen. Their speaking habits tend to make them immune to learning. People think they’re experts, calling places “sois” and such.
I stand by my remarks that it is all relative to where you are from. Anyone from the Yemen or most parts of Africa would consider PP very clean. You are just judging it by your own standards and entitled to that opinion.

I liked reading his perspective, but I think it's hard to imagine anyone being impressed by Phnom Penh's cleanliness.
It's like saying London is your favorite city because you like warm, sunny places. You can like warm and sunny places. London can be you favorite city. But those two facts don't really go well together.
I wanna see pictures of these impressively clean areas of Phnom Penh.

Maybe. It's not insulting the OP to say that 100% of expats living in Phnom Penh would question its "freshness and cleanliness". Lol. Even if you are a visitor staying in clean and fancy hotels, from your taxi you should still notice that there is a bit of a problem with street rubbish, fantastically dangerous electric street wiring, and traffic noise and pollution.walkjivefly wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 9:18 pmTroll much?geordiesky wrote: ↑Sat Oct 06, 2018 1:18 am I simply love Phnom Penh for its freshness and cleanliness.

However, much of Phnom Penh is beautiful, and for sure it is the only city in Cambodia. Nobody's perfect after all.
