Knife Sharpening

Post by Doc67 »

Does anyone know where I can take my knives to get them sharpened properly, nearby to Norodom and Street 154.

They have become dull (a bit like this post I suppose) despite constant efforts with the dodgy steel sharpener they came with. They each need an hour of skilled effort on a wetstone and I have neither the skill nor the patience to do the job myself.

As always, many thanks in advance...

Most Khmer markets will have a person with a stone sharpening Knives. I used to go to Toul Tompoung market and there was always a guy sitting near one of the entrances. Although they tend to move around the market depending on work available. I would advise bringing your knives to the market near the place where they cut meat. There should be someone there willing to do it or ask. Cheers

As mentioned. Go by a market, or look for the guy riding a bike/motorcycle with knives dangling off and a wet stone. Jsur don't give him any of your high-end knives as they're not the most meticulous dudes...

But you've been forewarned, those guys at the market don't know how to properly sharpen a knife. I've watched them for years, and never understood how they can be so clueless.

They may get your knives sharp, but in doing so, they will ruin the balance of the knife, along with the blade itself, far more prematurely than would ever be the case with an educated and skillful knife sharpener.

Take a real close look at the knives and you'll see what I'm saying is true. But hey, this is the KOW, right?

We are talking about a 7 piece set including a small clever and a (shit) sharpening steel for $15!

Plus one other I bought for about $5.

I left my set of Global knives in the UK.

As long as they are sharp I'm happy. I'll try the market. Thanks everyone...

Or use the back or a ceramic plate. Sharpens a cheap knife, no problem.
