Re: Kittens....
The smallest did not make it. He passed within 30 hrs one weekend. He was much smaller than his sister and brother. Not a nice experience.
The other three have joined the ranks of Cambodia weight watchers as they got maximum food (my view, not their's). All are clean, use the sandbox almost to perfection, and are extremely attached, especially the two boys.
The female has a strange habit. She turns the two others into her surrogate mother and starts sucking on their tummies as she did as a baby with her mom. Her brother does the same sometimes. The second male has sometimes nightmares and gives warning sounds in his sleep. When I wake up he is fine. Seems all three are still a bit traumatized which makes much harder for me to let them go.
The second male (orange) is also a perfect feet warmer as he likes it close to the toes. All are eager to cuddle. All are well-behaved and survive 10-12 hours and even a bit longer without food if feed well before. In other words they can survive the day or night without food which might attract rodents otherwise.
The female and her brother are rather quiet, while the orange male is a talker which is very interesting. They are all perfect company. Older kids will love them and find in them a good playmate. The tiger male is an accomplished soccer player. All love TV and sleeping on the lap is a perfect past time for them as is joining the two-legged one on the couch when he takes a nap.
I m now checking with an animal charity about vaccinations and neutering although that might be way too early.
In short, I hate the fact that I will be out of PP for 4 months and cant keep them. It is a bit like betraying them and the idea that I might not find a good home gives me more than some anxiety.
SO: I anyone is interested, I will post some cute photos and hope they can find their new home(s). Ideally the sister and brother would stay together, just wishing.

Re: Kittens....
While there is a surplus of rats in Cambodia, there is no such thing as a surplus of cats, or did you mean '' sourpuss '' cats.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: Kittens....
Why not kill the cats? Rarely read a worse comment. First of all they are good animals and fulfill a function. If Cambodians would privilege cats over pet dogs we would not have rats running on roofs, in stairways and populate the river front in a way that these rodents do now. In the Phils my place was the one rodent free place in the neighborhood. The other house owners' or tenants' argument against cats was that they are 'dirty.' Well, rodents are supposedly not and dogs are cleaner than cats. If that would only be true.
The pointer PPAWS was worth gold. They reacted immediately. De-sexing is free BUT way too early for the little ones. So that's something the new host will need to coordinate. I'll throw in a checkup with vaccinations. This will hopefully happen this week. Vaccinations cost 10 USD per kitten, so that's doable. I mention this as others might still need to take care of their small ones.
Does anyone have a senior Khmer mother in law? She might be a good new host and enjoy the company. For me the kittens keep me regularly away from the screen which is good for my eyes. Otherwise I would be working too long at a time.
Again, anyone with some empty spot for a kitten is encouraged to message me.

Re: Kittens....
When you do the desexing, ask PPAWS if they could take pics and put the word out on their FB page to help you find them homes. Will give you a little more reach.

Re: Kittens....
The good news is the girl will find a place with a lady working at the bank. Moreover, she will ask her colleagues if someone likes one of the two boys. So maybe there is a happy end in sight. Until then, any reader here is more than welcome to adopt one or both boys.
PPAWS will put pictures on their FB page once I mail those. Today I was busy with the dentist and verifying and arranging the transfer of the girl kitten. Now I can focus on the boys.
De-sexing will have to wait as they are still too small for that. Anyhow the situation is not too bad with one placed and the medical side of the story arranged.
On the way to the dentist I went through one of the neighboring alleys and saw 3 (!) thick cats. That makes 15 new arrivals within the next 3 weeks I take it. Good that I m off in 2 weeks. I have a feeling that those small ones will turn up at my door sooner or later. On the other hand, no more rodents. They infest the block and also the building but my balcony and flat are off limits for those beasts. Strange that Cambodians put up with those plagues and dogs that shit anywhere but think cats are a problem.
One thing I regret is that I do not know the local Muslim community. In the Phils they took in lots of kittens when they learned that a cat had saved the prophet and are also considered to be 'clean' as opposed to dogs. Once in the market I was chatting with the Muslims ladies when a religious scholar came by and confirmed my info. That was a golden day for local cats. Some took two.

You realise the lady at the bank won't get the girl desexed though = 5000 more cats. Do it before you hand her over.

Re: Kittens....
Thanks for the cleanup.
The bank lady is a young and educated woman. She will pick up the female kitten, as she did not want a boy, at the charity. I hope to combine vaccination and health check with the turn over so that the kitten has less stress. It might save the small one a round trip. We had discussed details and all seems ok. She did not express concerns other than expenses. But the de-sexing is for free while I cover the vaccination donation. Postponing the handover is unfortunately not an option. In 2 weeks I have to leave and it will take much longer for the kittens to be old enough for the procedure.
So right now, I am still looking for places for the two males. They will be, as stated above, vaccinated, free de-sexing is available at the right time, they are healthy and strong. Totally tame and love to cuddle. While they might not (yet) be the best hunter, their scent keeps rodents away as I can attest to.
Please, let's keep the thread about the remaining two kittens. I will provide photos tomorrow I hope.
