The spaghetti was my long gone alpha female in the phils. She was something. Milk is too fat for them. But watered down with rice should work.

The fish is a big success, no surprise. Chicken will also do. Once the market is open I can check for other affordable solutions. The canned stuff I will check next but probably not cheaper. The market means also leaving the money with locals and not the ultra-rich.

I also got some 25 kgs of sand from a nearby construction side, 2K riel for the angkor fund of the workers. They kept filling a sack with my eyes growing ever bigger and I had to carry it back. Lost 2 kgs easy (not sand, tummy bank deposits). So I can train them now to be clean. Hopefully this sand info is helpful for someone.

Interestingly no. 4 seems to be an alley cat. Very different behavior to the three others who were born in what was a somewhat protected environment. Today on the balcony no. 4 was running for cover every 10 sec. while the three did not care. When it got dark no.4 starting playing. Anyhow, they love me dearly with the princess sleeping on the leftovers of my tummy and no. No. 4 trying to give me kisses. That illustrates the situation nicely.

The wat is off for good. I had no idea about the realities. I need to look for good places, once they are clean and a bit bigger. I hope to get some input from the NGO next week as to de-sexing and other issues.

Related but not directly: Very surprisingly the sand expedition and the kittens somewhat integrate me into the neighborhood. Neighbors give me thumbs up from their balconies when they see me watching the kittens on the balcony. The rescue effort for No. 4 is also alley talk. And the sweaty barang with the sack of sand was well received by some very elderly members. I had to put the sack down and they asked what it is. I could show and make the purpose clear.

Edit: No. 4 the alley kitten has now approved of the milk rice. that is good news, not for my coffee though

^^wtf? Raw meat is fine! Cats are carnivores after all.

Beef is too expensive to feed to cats here anyway, but you can get a good sized chicken breast for 4000-5000 riel at the market, has no bones so very easy to chop up for kitties

Exactly. Never saw my old cat frying the rats she caught. The small fish works fine as the small bones give them something to work on and the calcium should be good for their bones. My older cats in the phils always declared a national holiday when I can back from the indian restaurant with a bag full of chicken breast bones with little pieces of meat left on them. Was like a fiesta for the whole clan.

The sand works well, almost all of them are now "on target" with some room for error. It will take another day or two and they are fine on the toilet front.

I also got some feedback from the Animal Rescue guys. Well, the info was that they dont take kittens, understandably. For neutering and fleas I should go to a vet. Which is of course earth shaking new info. Neutering at 3 months the earliest.

Does anyone have some info as to the cost of the neutering per animal? I need a cheap place as my dentist is making 4-5K (not riel.... :( ) from me this year.

Finally, some treatment against fleas. In supermarkets, pet shops etc. I think. But where in PP?

Thanks for all the help.

Not cheap to get them neutered. I think I paid USD 120.00 at Agrovet a few years back.

that would be something like about 500 USD. that's impossible. Need to check with other NGOs. Years ago a female was 70 USD in the Phils but that was with healthy long nose bonus (for the vet).

PPAWS was offering free desexing on Mondays a while back, need to make an appointment with them first. Kittens need to be at least a few months old (ask them). Check their FB page https://www.facebook.com/PPAWSCambodia/

Do you seriously think you know what's better for cats, then veterinarians who spend their lives treating thousands of sick cats?

Here's some info from a website that actually knows what they are talking about:

"It is important to know that feeding raw food to your cat comes with some risks. Raw food may contain pathogens like Salmonella and E. coli that can lead to serious life-threatening infections. Cooking food removes most of these pathogens, which is why we humans tend to cook our food.

Cats often digest raw foods better than humans because they have shorter, more acidic digestive tracts. Many pathogens will pass through a cat without causing any issues. However, not all cats can tolerate raw food.

Perhaps the greatest risk of feeding and handling raw meat comes down to cross-contamination. Feeding your cat a raw food diet can expose you and other people in your home to dangerous pathogens. Pathogens can remain on preparation surfaces, food dishes, in cat fecal matter and even on your cat (especially around the face)."

Precisely.

Any fool knows that most cats have a secret kitchen to which they take their prey: Roast bird tonight, Sir? May I recommend the Cabernet Sauvignon Milk 57?

Some champagne with your sauteed gecko, madame?

Really monsieur Moggie, the rat a la snob is excellent tonight, flame - grilled to perfection
