A friend in the know told me that the immigration jail guys don't want the paperwork involved in deportation, and broke troublemakers are often taken to the border and discreetly pushed into Thailand.
Wouldn't that make them illegal immigrants in Thailand, after being detained in shit conditions long enough to ensure they are genuinely broke ?

The amount of awful advice here is astounding .... Especially those prolific posters who demand often enough how smart they are in all things Cambodia ....

There's only one consistently valid source of immigration advice and he seems hesitant to dirty his feet trudging into this quagmire.

Yikes !!

Take 900 cash with you and play stupid, when going to immigration, the place who stamps your passport out and take fingerprints, there is a sign "nothing to pay here", put 300 in your passport and try your luck, useally there are 2 guys after him, where you actually have to pay the overstay. If the three guys agree between them, all get 100. Might work, did it before already, but with only couple of days overstay. Go early to catch your plane, because you might loose time trying it. Of cours it is illegal but all are corrupt at he airport, really, ALL !!
The chances of getting bent over the table at the airport and arrested for bribery would be more serious than getting deported.
If in this country everybody who bribes would be arrested for bribery, what would happen you think ??
To bribe is just normal here, our western thinking is different, but here it is the rule. Any guy in a uniform thinks like a bussinessman, he doesnt care you are right or wrong, he just wants to earn money. Thats the way it works here, welcome to SE Asia !! I wouldnt try it in Singapore, but here it is the rule . . .

I thought you had to go to the immigration department to get an exit visa if your overstay has surpassed a certain threshold? Instead of just rocking up at the airport and expecting to pay on your way out.

Overstays of 30+ days require the offender to present themselves to the DoI Visa Office in Pochentong, pay the overstay fine of $10 p/d, apply for and obtain an Exit Visa for $30, then leave the country within 7 days. You cannot pay overstays of 30+ days at borders (air, land, sea), try bribing officials and see what happens.

In rare circumstances they may allow the offender to purchase a new Visa so that they can remain in country, but that rarely ever is the case.

If you can't pay up, then you are likely to be detained pending payment or deportation.

You have more chance of being able to negotiate a discount on long overstay fines (6+ mths).

..........hen you are likely to be detained pending payment or deportation.

Questions for ya PSD: this has come up in many forums regarding deportation >.....

Some say you will be deported to country you arrived from
Others (and the one i subscribe to) you will be deported to the country of your passport>
A few even think you can choose

second question;
if your broke & deported, who pays? would your embassy step in?

Just for clarification, if you had a short overstay of perhaps 45 days caused by a mistaken belief of your visa expiration date, you will almost certainly have to leave the country?

Will you be able to return right away or are you banned from re-entry for a set period? Is your passport stamped as deported?

Boy, that quickly turned from 'im curious' to a moralistic speech from high atop your throne of sanctimony .... Hahaha
it's not a throne of sanctimony, but a throne of ease, under which you lay as expected ^^
No moralistic stance, just logical advice based on what we see popping on this subject. Are you feeling insecure when i talk about cheaper drugs, cheaper beer, cheaper girls ? You certainly sound so, in addition of the rest...Good luck in fullfilling your own personal void, captain cuck...
And i'm too old to be called "boy"...
Go play with the trucks on the autobahn is my main advice for you.
Cheerio !
