I just arrived in Phnom Penh

Post by Newbieneedshelp »

Hi guys
Im a newbie, single male late 40's have been in Bangkok last 6 months.

Im finding PP overwhelming and to a certain degree i felt scared last night.

Im staying in a hotel near the riverside???

Last night 12am i thought i would go for a walk only to have not only every tuk tuk stop but young kids who seem to be sniffing glue??? try to grab my pockets .

I went back to the hotel and told themanager who was very helpful and he said he would send thd security guard to walk with me if i wanted but i declined.

Im finding it expensive in the short time i have been here eg.. 10 minute tuk tuk ride.. $5 US about 200 baht thai .

Im going to walk around toda,I pribaly need a guide i think ?

Ive been staying near riverside for a few days now, and honestly aside from every tuk tuk driver wanting to give me a ride i haven't had much of a problem (it seems pointless to get a ride when i have no specific destination). I have been walking around a lot, I think that if you do it early it should be fine, i am usually in bed by 9. I have always found that If you walk like you know where you are going(briskly) you tend to not have many problems. as for the expensive rides you could probably haggle down, and if they refuse its not like there is a shortage of drivers here.

5 Dollars for a 10-minute Tuk-tuk ride? You've been had. And every Tuk-tuk tried to grab your pockets? I find that hard to believe.

I personally find BKK lots scarier than PP, I always thought it would be easy to adapt for someone coming over there.

Maybe its how its written that gave you that impression but I met the young kids not the tuk tuk drivers.

When I first read it I took it as the Tuk Tuks as elk as the kids but after rereading it I took it as just the kids.

Make from that what you will.

The other poster gave you the advice you need. Walk like you know where you are going and they will leave you alone.

The tuk tuk driers right on the riverfront are probably more interested in selling drugs than actually taking you anywhere.

Should only be $2 for a ride AFAIK.

And if your really scared, like as a scary cat, get a girlfriend to hold your hand.

Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
