Job Sites in Cambodia???

Post by Alex_Kraus »

Dear CEO community,

I lived in Cambodia (PP) for almost a year after I was offered a job while on holiday from my job in the Philippines. So until 2 months ago I never had to look for a job in the Kingdom. Looking for a management position in hospitality. I started looking on all the job websites, phnomlist, camhr, pelprek and more... And when I saw an opening I sent my application. Simple. I never got a reply. No worries (well more and more with time passing), there are better people than me out there. But I noticed some weird things with same post appearing on other job sites at different dates, or new post with hotel name replaced by recruitment agency... So I started a more hands on approach by systematically dropping by to submit my application to the hotels (I now live in the Sihanoukville area). And to my surprise in the past 4 cases of "new opening" they weren't even looking. I'm on the facebook groups too but it seems when it comes to management it's not the best place. My former Cambodian colleagues told me it's all about connections. It seems I don't have the right connections then... Does that mean I should leave a place I really like?

My question may sound stupid but how do you know who's hiring around here (SNK, Otres) when it come to management level? (I mean at least USD800 to cover my expenses and still have some beer money and buy a piece of imported cheese from time to time, and I m fully aware 6 days a week and long hours)
Thanks for your advices (and the bad jokes too, I noticed CEO members' sharp sense of humor... ;) :whip: )

Welcome.

Have you done a search on Pekprek or Bobgthom? That might be a good place to look around for who's hiring.

Thanks for your replies. Much appreciated.

I'm on them General. Around a dozen websites. Some poorly updated. Some I'm sure accurate. Just for information last problem I mentioned was from phnomlist.com . Still worth checking though.

Thanks for the group Tenbells. Didn't have this one. Last questions if I may...

Do you think posting a quick presentation of myself & experience on FB groups such as the one you mentioned or Sihanoukville Job (Joined 2 groups quite active) is a good thing? (not the full CV and contact details, I remember PP job post group forbid it, didn't check SNK group rules yet).

Is self application a common practice around here?

Once again thanks a lot!

I would do exactly that.

And just a pointer: make sure your post is professional and typo-free. It avoids a lot of grief you can get, and they are very distracting to some people.

You will probably receive helpful info via PM.
