Job hunting Cambodia

Post by Tynext »

Hello
I plan to fly to Cambodia in upcoming weeks.
Can anyone tell me if I have any chance of getting a job in Phnom Penh?
Are there strict lockdown or government policies in place which can cause issues?

I take you’ve already got a visa?
Might help if you list your skill set.

Bongthom is ok but it depends what you’re after.

Generic questions deserve generic answers I guess. Cambodia has been booming since April 2020 so headhunters will probably fight over you at the airport.

No. I haven't got a visa yet. Due to the pandemic it is a little tough to get Visa. Therefore I thought to gain information beforehand, if it is worth it. It is no use if I manage to get Visa and there is no scope of job hunting there.
Sorry but what does "bongthom" mean?
And I am looking for a TEFL job.

Haha...if only they would.
I am looking for a TEFL job.
Sorry I didn't write a specific question because I am not so sure if i can get that job so I might need to search for other options too.
I read that few private institutions got shut down. So I am a little sceptical about job availability for now.

Hi OP,
Do you have a special reason to come to Cambodia right now ? Things are not so great, a lot of people (including expat teachers) are out of work.
Lockdowns and curfews come and go in different places. There's a lot of talk of opening up the country "soon", maybe even next month, but who knows ?
Sorry not to be more optimistic, but Cambodia has been hard hit economically by the pandemic and and the resulting closed borders. Good luck.

Thank you for being honest. Yes, I read the news. They are talking about reopening. My main reason is to finally go out. I read that Cambodia is doing good against virus. I read about bankruptcy and closure of institutions too but may be once the country reopens it will cause a boost. At least that is what I am hoping.so I thought of trying my luck with a job there.

...As you rightfully should.
Can't see the point of trying to come to be an English teacher in such a mess. Better things to do elsewhere, i believe.

Bongthom is a job website.
