they cant even collect tax from their own citizens in their own country

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Income Tax....
^ exactly. Although it is possible they may investigate people who are receiving regular large sums of money from overseas into a local bank account?

PSD-Kiwi wrote:^ Any person considered resident of Cambodia (spends 180 + days per year in Cambodia), is liable to pay taxes to the Cambodian government on any overseas income.
It's detailed in the the law on taxation, English translations are available online if you want to read.
That is a very interesting bit of information. I think I'll not stir that pot.
Does it mention the possible fines or seizures for an offense?

Re: Income Tax....
So if I spend 365/6 days a year in the Kingdom, I am considered (is that the same as 'deemed to be") a resident. So surely I am eligible for residency.PSD-Kiwi wrote:^ Any person considered resident of Cambodia (spends 180 + days per year in Cambodia), is liable to pay taxes to the Cambodian government on any overseas income.

I already pay tax, have dependent children, etc.
Why do there have to be so many hoops to jump through (and $$$ to pay).
A Khmer who lives and works legally in Australia for 2years (I think) is eligible to apply for Oz citizenship.
Re: Income Tax....
Haha, if only they made it that simple.
You are considered/deemed to be (same thing?) a "Resident for tax purposes" only.

Silence, exile, and cunning.

I'm sure this has all been covered before. Well here it is again if you missed it.
An MoU between USA & Cambodia: A delightful 49 page light reading. Cures insomnia.

A briefing on topic:

An English edition of Cambodia's tax laws;

Yet I still do not know if a pension is considered a salary.
Anyone?

Re: Income Tax....
This may get interesting if Cambodia signed agreements with America. All of my retirement accounts in America are untouchable except for collection of federal income tax, court ordered spousal and minor child support. This is covered under various state and federal laws with the overriding one being 46 United States Code 111109, which states except for the before mentioned exceptions, a merchant mariners wages and wages "accruing" cannot be touched. This could get interesting if Cambodia wants to keep getting money from "Uncle Sugar," as all of my money is wages accruing from being a merchant mariner.
An example of 46USC111109 is that if I run up a big Visa credit card bill and don't pay it, the Visa provider can't touch a merchant mariners wages, wages paid into a bank account and/or wages accruing in a retirement account.
