Cash is king. Popular alternative is ABA transfer (from your ABA account to landlord's ABA account) or Wing payment (via ABA too, if you have a Wing account).

Cheques are issued by banks, yes, but probably accepted by condos or properties with proper accounting systems. My landlord would have no idea what to do with it if I were to write him one.
