How to get small notes?

Post by nich »

Hello

Going tro visit Cambodia for the third time and always been in the mess with 100$ and get them broken down.

ATM always gives me 4 big bills when i take the maximum 490$ (500 would give 5 Benjamins).

Whats´your way to get a lot of small?

Best would be to have 100$ in 1$Bills.

Thanks for your advice.

Withdraw from an ATM at a bank, then go inside and get them changed.

Firstly, withdraw sums from ATMs that end in 90, eg $90, $190 etc.
Second, go to a good moneychanger (such as the one on the NE corner of 13 and 110) and ask for $50 in riel, handing them $100. You get $50 in small denoms hopefully. Spend the riel wherever you don't get penalised for doing so.
Third, crack large bills every time you go somewhere that will be OK about doing so, eg any bar, Western restaurant, supermarket.
Fourth, never pay anyone with $1 bills, pay with $5 or $10 or with riel (see above).

Link a credit card to your Grab account so you don't give have to give your $1 bills to tuk tuk drivers.

some ATMs give out $50 bills rather than hundreds. I don't remember which ATMs those are.
