How can you tell there is no isopropyl in any coctail (bar/street cart / shop)?

Post by james1234 »

In this treattopic10288.html
I told a story where I enjoyed a (or actually many) Long Island Ice Tea for 1,50 at a street cart.

It tasted great, got realy drunk and I was not sick the next day :beer3:

But @Captain Bonez suggested:
[/Can you imagine how cheap and nasty the ingredients must have been for them to sell a Long Island Iced Tea for $1:50 and still try and make a profit?

Wouldn't be surprised if half of it was isopropyl, actually I'm probably sure that if you buy a Long Island Iced Tea for $1:50 on the side of the road in Cambodia then you're drinking isopropyl and if you're lucky maybe some Mekong Whiskey
I thought I was just drinking cheap local rum and gin, which doesn't bother me. Have been drinking more very cheap local stuff in Afrika and China too and enjoyed it. I don't drink such stuff every week, so what the hell?

But I will be moving to Cambodia this year and want to enjoy more (not very many) coctails at various places so:
How can you tell there is no isopropyl in any coctail (bar/street cart / shop)? :please:

If you are alive in the morning it was clean booze, simple.
To be honest cheap booze does not have to be bad booze. We just pay inflated prices in the west because the companies have to spend half their profits getting facebook likes and google hits. marketing men are the best people in the world at pushing up prices

Garden variety spirits are $10/l retail.
4/5 half shots and a slug of coke in a long island costs them maybe 3000៛.

Anyone that charges $1.50 for one should be avoided, nonetheless.

i think it is methanol that is the real worry. you can find that in "rice wine" sra sor. they may use it in cocktails as vodka.
the idiot distilers do not throw out the fore shots so you can get a whole bottle of meths on occasion that can kill a few people quite well. they have no scientific concept. simple observation shows you when you break from running methanol foreshots to ethanol run without the need even for a thermometer.
you can get those 10L plastic jugs of legit USA spirits for about $32.
so really the danger is pretty minimal as poisoning your clientele does not make sense as a biz model.

Bonez wouldn't know methylated spirits from midori. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

If you see Harpoon Gin behind the bar, avoid like the plague. It's French gin. Not sold in the EU of course. Gives Very Bad Hangover. I drank it once by mistake. Don't do it.
And avoid the rice wine mojitos. :voilent4:

The best cocktail in Cambodia is Black Panther, Red Bull and Coke.
