Does it really matter that someone is helping out people more unfortunate than himself?

you misunderstand, Scott has a HUGE amount of backing.
Choice is more hands on the ground with a smaller base to get donations from.
Plus a lot less overhead so ur donation will reach those you wish it to reach.

PS: both organizations, (as did IPO) grew out of helping the kids/family's at the Stung Meanchey dump back in the day

Just my $.05 worth

If you want to help kids, i would find a good organisation and give your donation to them with a 10 foot pair of chopsticks and walk away.
Personally, i make sure i don't go within 100 miles of any kids in Cambodia unless surrounded by family - theirs and mine.

It has probably taken away some wonderful chances of properly playing the Old Man/Grandfather role in this stage of my life, but i am super paranoid about it.

Yes he probably was but as far as I was aware the only evidence was rumour. All up for charity but it should be done through an official charity such as the ones mentioned or things my go wrong.

It’s also true that giving beggar kids money just keeps them begging and out of school.

Some great feedback guys. yes, well noted about becoming too hands on at the risk of being branded a pedo. Now I think about it, maybe some type of sponsorship program would be best (with letters or email updates) ill keep searching an update.
Thanks

Serious.... Unless you've been her for a long time and you know the people really well it's very hard to determine whether they are in need of your support or not. Better leave it to the pros.

You can give back by teaching the upper echelon of Khmer society that it's time to put on big-boy-pants and take care of their own Country and Countrymen.

Instead of relying on NGO's and donor countries to do the dirty work and heavy lifting, whilst they awash themselves in lavish riches.

The days of UNTAC are long gone and by the looks of the luxury vehicles and high-rise properties choking the capital city......it's damn time for a fucking paradigm shift.

Good idea. Take it a step further and give them an education. Heck if India can have a space program so can Cambodia.

I thought about this about a year ago but never got around to do anything to do with clarity I just don't get the feeling most of my donation would get to those needy
I try shopping at little stores , markets, tip bar staff, tuk tuk drivers etc
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

I just tip generously and when I hire somebody to do something, I pay fairly.

I have a school near me and the kids do their Phys Ed in these ratty old soccer kits.

I bet I could buy them all new ones for $50.

But no, Im a single American guy so Id would be an automatic suspect for some NGO. Its sad, because if it wasnt for the freaks, every poor shoeless kid that comes near me would walk away with a dollar in their hands.
