Re: Hostel guests using laptops till 3am
I don't know, considering you are basically bunking up with absolute strangers it seems pretty harmless. Unless he's wanking in your general direction or something.I don't know what goes on in these places. Rooms don't cost that much.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

The guy you talk of may have been writing excellent travel thread or asking questions about Cambodia, on his new found helpful forum site! What was it "Oh yes CEO" but was interrupted by a disgruntled guy because he wishes to sleep in a hostel dormitory full of backpackers of different homelands, who just want the experience of enjoying their holiday and meeting new people, and possible looking to party. "Life is too short as it is" and "there will be plenty of time to sleep when your dead" Was quoted that at the Glastonbury festival 1992, playing then The Orb, Lenny Kravitz, Velvet Underground, Red Hot Chilly Peppers and one of my favourites -
Ozric Tentacles with the track Dissolution (The Clouds Disperse) from the album "Pungent Effulgent" (1989)

Always "hope" but never "expect".

Couldn't imagine sleeping like that, especially when solo accommodation can be had so cheaply. Can't a solo room be had for $300 a month? What is the price difference in the dorms for a month? Save up another $100-200 before traveling and pay the extra to sleep in comfort.
I used to spend very little on accommodation and a bunch on drinking and eating. The room I would never be in, just come to pass out after drinking. Still, I would get a cheap solo room instead of bunking with people.
Am I misjudging the price difference? I just don't get the saving of $100-200 at the expense of having a personal lodging.

"Excuse me mate, can you turn the brightness down on your laptop"
Worth getting your towels etc and building a nice wall out of them pinched under the bunk above, always stay bottom for this reason alone.
You can also let them know about "night light" if they're using Windows 10, just type in the search bar in the bottom left of your erm windows bar... otherwise get https://justgetflux.com/ I used this for many a year before Windows made it redundant, failing that grab the laptop and smash it round their dome and down a beer to assert hostel dominance, then tell everyone you're coming for the phones next.

Werd, big part of why I mainly travel Asia these days is I can get a really nice room between 20-50 AUD... that said I do miss how easy it was to meet people at backpackers... And whilst these new capsule styled hostel look nice inbetween, at 33 I don't want to be old guy messing up the young ones good time, plus the hangovers are to brutal these day's, can't imagine having deal with bed bugs and the roar of 10 other fart machines polluting the air with a modern hangoverGMJS-CEO wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:03 am Couldn't imagine sleeping like that, especially when solo accommodation can be had so cheaply. Re: Hostel guests using laptops till 3am
Luckily the Hostel owners were friendly and put me in a better room.
Most peeps would have apologized and switched off and gone to sleep. The real issue was this guy didn't even acknowledge me when I was trying to explain to him to reduce the brightness. He was basically ignorant and didn't care about anyone else. He was a digital nomad who chose to work when everyone was trying to sleep at night instead of during the day.
Was he actually an attention seeker? Yes I believe he was. He wanted to create a problem and Instead of being reasonable he acted meanly.
Then again he was an Israeli and that sums up a lot.
Thanks for your replies.

Fight ignorance with ignorance, no one wins but you'll feel bettershnoukieBRO wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:25 am Luckily the Hostel owners were friendly and put me in a better room.

Failing to respond to my polite request for him to dim his screen I would have donned my headlamp, put it on high beam, and adjusted its direction so as to hit him in the face. I'd then make a second polite request for him to dim his screen.
Privacy is worth paying a little bit extra for, I think.

There were times when I would have deposited a lump of itchy fiber glass wool in his bed when he was out. Thankfully I don't have to live in Asia hostels and also wouldn't want to subject others to my snoring and beer farts.
