My ex-GF, who is a complete and utter moron, with an attitude that befits the country she comes from, recently managed to get a UK visa. She also paid the expedite fee apparently.
Sadly, like many places, the UK official channels have decided to use VFSglobal, who in some places have proven inadequate. Due to our national adoption of 'customer charters' to ensure that everything is handled within a maximum time frame, or that a complaints process will take over to discover why it didn't (also with maximum time frame), 'getting the job done' has taken second place to 'getting the job done within the guidelines'. i.e. More bureaucracy, common sense is out.

I once had to deal with New Delhi for a replacement passport (8 years ago, aforementioned GF's niece fed my passport to one of the dogs...). they were actually quite helpful, but in all events quoted the response times.

I deal with the same kind of crap in connection with my job; 15 days is quoted on every communication. Frequently, however, it does happen much faster. i'd actually hold off demanding a return of your passport, as that might engage a fifteen delay response of its own...

Not forgetting that at present, there is further interest in UK-Russia relations due to odd substances getting into contact with the public

The possible additional delay of 15 working days in getting my passport back if I cancel was the reason I decided against it.

Damn spy drama is messing with my travel plans!

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes
