Hey youse expats- Chlong?

Who has been to Chlong, the old river port south of Kratie? I may bus to Kratie and ride a moto to Chlong. Or enter the kingdom and immediately fly out to Bangkok or Saigon for a week.

Ridden through it a few times. Nice part of the country but nothing much there. Le Relais de Chhlong looks worthy of a few nights, but besides a few wats and and the river there's not a lot to do.

It's Chhlong. Sounds cool.

I was there in 2005, but I've seen recent reports and photos and it doesn't appear to have changed much, the roads look a lot better now though, before it was just mud-tracks. Half the road from there to Kratie was underwater anyway so we had to do some patches in a boat. I'm not sure there's any accommodation there at the moment. I think it was an important trading station back in the day but it seems nobody cared so long about Chhlong.

The road between Kratie and chhlong used to be very quiet but it has got busy now the road is better. Its become a main road for Phnom Penh-Kratie minivans and trucks.
If you want to take it easy on a bike, there is still a dirt track that goes along the Mekong some of the way - you have to get back on the road for the bridges - the river track goes through huts and villages so you have to drive slowly but it's nice. Kids still yell HELLO.
South of Chhlong there are still road works in progress and there's a dusty deviation which is a bit shitty.
One night in Chhlong would be more than enough from my experience, but who knows, you may discover hidden treasures.
