Has anyone had to deal with Imimigration about work visas?

Post by taabarang »

Sorry, if my multi-posting on this issue is tiresome, but it is of great importance to me and the future of my family. So on a related post YourMother wrote,
The point is, nobody has really posted their experience with being 'busted' by immigration (or whoever they purport to be) and their experience of what they had to do. And have not heard one single person say they had to pay retroactive fees. So ..."

I think that is a fair observation that deserves further exploration. Has anyone in fact dealt with them(the immigration officials)? I am particularly interested in hearing about retroactive fees and demands or threats to collect them. However all information is fair game. Also, I would prefer to hear personal testimony or at worst second hand information gathered from a close friend. Not so and so told me about so and so who was told by so and so, etc. As General Patton once said intelligence is like eggs from the country, the fresher, the better. Thank you for your help, I have a lot riding on this.

Ok, moved it to the "Ask the Expats" section, since it's a direct question.

Let's hope for some answers from fellow expats!

Does anyone know fi the Poster, Buscador, posts here

Post by taabarang »

under a different name? Due to a lack of activity on the work permit/special visa threads here, I had to go to K440. He is to my knowledge the only one who has posted personal experience with the new immigration requirements. I would prefer to stick to one forum, i.e. this one, but if needs be I get my alias and register just so I can contact him. Thanks

I have not, nor has anyone I know personally. It appears that they have cracking down in certain cities (Kampot and Siem Reap) and gone to a few businesses and made demands. There have been no cities where the entire expat population has been affected. Sounds like there's pretty much no way to know if you're going to be one of the ones that gets "picked" but it seems unlikely that you will be, from what little I know of your situation.

Thank you for that Giblet. It seems to be mostly rumor, supposition, and wild stabs into the dark. It is no wonder that there is little factual info to be had.
What I find strange is why didn't they inform applicants for the special visa for all those years that they had to have a work permit/work book or whatever when they applied for the visa? This is NOT enforcement; this is a failure to disseminate pertinent information for which they are now penalizing past applicants. What happened of course is that The Ministry of
Immigration has redefined the wide range of possibilities that the visa could represent for their financial gain. Thank you also for the kind thought of not being picked, but I must unfortunately disagree since I'm the only foreigner in the village and the local police acting for immigration authorities have tried to run scams past me before. No details are necessary since those scams are long gone and not relevant to the current situation. Thanks again.

He's still a mod over on K440, and I don't "think" he posts over here, as he barely even posts over there anymore.

If you mean they came and checked his papers that he had ........... that is not experience.

What they are looking for here is:

How it effects businesses

Are there fines? Really? Where?

Is it retroactive?

Is it bullshit?

Stop making so many threads and find out, as this is the 4th different one on this site. I tried all that before getting kicked off of K440, and I am the only one to have contributed any facts. Unless you think Buscador did with having his $20 medical and $100 workbook.

K440 has not posted shit.

Most mods don't post over there anymore....for some reason they are at least surprisingly quiet.

Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

He has an account here, although he has never posted. Try sending him a PM. He might get an email.
