They always seem to have disclaimers nearby, stating that you shouldn't trust the room safe and it's not their responsibility if it gets robbed, so you should instead leave all your important stuff in the reception safe.
The last thing you want to do is hand your valuables to the desk jockey at a low budget Cambodian hotel and say "Please look after all this money and jewelry for me, it's too valuable for me to privately leave in the safe in my room."

Hometown suites on street 172 has shitty locks on the doors, BUT all rooms have safes :-)
$19-22/night
each room with a ghost as so many have died there.

Flamingo is pretty good for looking after your valuables.

You'll never have to worry about them again.

I would not put cash in a hotel or GH safe. They are useful for other stuff but not for cash. Too tempting.
For about $50 you can get a huge room at Riverside Suites in low season.

When you go to bed and have your passport etc in the safe, put your shoes in as well. you will never forget your passport.
Good tip. Also good to know for travelers, hotel room safes ALL have a hidden key slot to open the safe, either for fraudulent reasons, because the batteries are flat, or the guest forgets the combination they set. Some people will tell you they all have a master code (0000, which is bollocks) and some might, but if you check the safe closely and pull away anything that looks like unnecessary plastic trim or branding, you'll find the key slot.
Yes, and the safes are often not screwed down so they can simply be carried away.

I have heard that on YouTube there it's a vid of how to open a hotel safe with a potato. Butter and salt extra.
