Getting about in PP

I arrived 6 months ago - same concern. Explored 3 wheelers but finally settled on a scooter (Honda Scoopy). I am 71, have not ridden moto or bicycle for 50 some years. Scooter is great. Fully automatic - no shifting and with scooter seating you do not have to straddle like a motorcycle or bike (hips are worn out). Spent several weeks just driving around the neighborhood and then open roads early morning before traffic. Balance in old age not so good - have trouble going slow in traffic but getting better. Fuel and insurance costs are inconsequential. Love the independence and mobility. Have since ridden 3 hours into provinces.

scoopy and step or any moto with the big open section for your feet are perfect for old farts with warn out bodies!

50 years not ridden any motos or bike and first time back at it, is in PP?

I have a car and a bike in Siem Reap but in PP I just walk, unless I am going to the airport (taxi). I usually stay around #108 Street and pretty much anything I need is within walking distance. Just can't be arsed to haggle with the Tuk-tuk drivers and the traffic in Phnom Penh scares. me; way too many "VIP's" in huge SUV's.

If you are catching a plane in the early morning , The City Bus gets there pretty quick as most of the traffic is trying to get into the city.

I must commend you, Sir. Balance would be one problem for me, but from what I have seen of PP, I would be absolutely terrified on anything with 2 wheels. Maybe once I have adjusted to a new lifestyle there, I can become more adventurous and start gradually as you have described. I like the idea that a few others have mentioned about trying this in SR instead of PP.

I have never been to SEA,

and u have decided to move to PP?

this will be interesting..... Better make sure u have at least $5,000 and a return trip ticket home an dont burn all ur bridges.

Nope. Getting a one way ticket and selling the car before I leave. I created a spreadsheet and ranked between 20 to 30 countries based on various criteria that is important to me. Cambodia came out on top and the spreadsheet don't lie

SR may be the better city for me, but I will need to ground proof it first. If Cambodia doesn't work out, then it is on to either Vietnam, Chiang Rai, or Prague. I really want to visit Prague when it is warm. The cold winters bumped the Czeck Republic out of the top position.

personally i would choose Chaing Rai over PP any day and night,
everything (except drinking/cigs ) is cheaper and its beautiful in northern Thailand (excpet for 6 weeks or so when they burn) than u head to the beach

PLUS great health care

would love to see why PP came out over CM
