Stand the box on its side. As you said they only have a small clearance underneath.
I have been programming these for 4 years. I am looking at selling them and loading them with
everythinG needed for Great TV

As long as air can circulate they are normally fine. Also remember with power outages a power surge can fry them easily.
I always disconnect at night.
If you are downloading to the box,remember they run like an Android phone. When they start to get full
or too many apps running they will slow down.

I had already put bigger rubber feet on it to allow more air circulation. At home it was always plugged into a power board with surge protection and a UPS... but unfortunately the day it died I was at a guesthouse without that protection.

I've made a stand for the replacement out of a coathanger and just awaiting the 5V fan for it, which I'll run off USB power. When I opened the old one, the heatsink immediately fell off the chip so it probably wasn't properly adhered in the first place.
