friendships in PP
Hey folks,
I noticed that people in Phnom Penh come on really strong trying to be your friend. At the same time, I get the feeling that they do not particularly like me. I do not think I ever tried to be friends with somebody that I could not stand. Acquaintances maybe if the person has something I find useful and I can set up some kind of exchange. But not friends. What is going on here?

It probably depends whether you are a male or a female.
Sometimes men pretend to be friendly to women and act like they are really interested in what they have to say. It's not because they are looking for a friend.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

I've met lots of people here that have become, over the course of many years of casual chats at the bar, casual acquaintances.curiosity wrote:Hey folks,

No one I've met here have come on strong trying to be buds. It's there a pattern to these people for you? mostly nationality x, or in bars on street y? Maybe they start out friendly and then realise you're a dick?

LOL, I'm a woman.
Re: friendships in PP
Here's the pattern. Women between 35 and 50 years old. Some stay-at-home, some on individual projects. Helper community in the broadest sense. None with big NGOs or large corporations. No bar acquaintances. Met at social events I found on fb. Immediately went on to tell me their life stories and asked me all kinds of personal questions. Seemed kind of desperate. Weird.
