that regards registering a moto..... NOT riding one,
what about all the rentals out there??
The number of us using our wife's/gf, friends motos?
The rental thing I'm not sure; for normal longer term type I think you just need to carry the original ownership card with you whilst riding & shouldn't have any issues.

Two years ago I brought a new bike in PP no way could it be registered in my name and even needed to take it back to provence where GF lives to register in her name, I was pretty pissed off about this after everyone including bike shop telling me no problem
I wouldn't have brought the bike if I had known I can't legally own it
If pulled over I will need girl to verify ownership as she has the ID
So advise go to motor registration and check for yourself before buying
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Thats from 2018 anyway.

OP, where did you see or hear about this "new law"? Need more info. Ministry of Transport website subdecrees have nothing.

Actually read about it on CEO, but I'd be pleased if I've misunderstood something and that it were not true, but I suspect many other CEO members can attest to it having been discussed on here.

Bought a new bike from Yamaha seven years or so ago and it was all registered in my name. About two years ago I lost my registration card and it was quite involved to replace it. I had to supply the registration department with a theft report from the police, a document confirming residence and one confirming ownership. An inspector at the registration dept checked my ID and my bike to confirm it was the one on the ownership document. It then took about a month to get my new card all registered correctly in my name. When I picked it up it cost $15.

I bought a new Honda when the law came out, because of wanting a bike registered in my name. It was done with no problems.

Not sure why you had trouble, but it's possible. It only applies to bikes already registered, and it does not apply to any other vehicle.
