I'm not sure if they're doing this in your area, but the inverter I'm running drops to around 200-205 volts around 7 in the morning. Then like clockwork at 5 it goes back to 220-230.

What do you use your inverter for?
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

The bill came 10 days late...Normally about 200000 riel a month using air con every night and few power outages....This time did not use the aircon for a months and 5 hour daily power outages...bill came to 195000 riel....Should not be this high for sure.

How dare you reduce your electricity consumption. The landlord needs to make a profit on that.

The time period dates are the same but probably recorded later. Good point.

With inverter based devices, such as the fridge shown in the picture, they adjust the power they receive to suit the hardware they have to run, such as a motor. To run at optimal performance the motor needs to have a known and constant input voltage. To ensure this happens an inverter takes mains power (anywhere from 100VAC to 240VAC ), converts it to DC, then converts it back to AC. If EDC reduces the line voltage then the inverter will need to draw a higher current to create the same amount of power for the motor.

With normal motors the same thing happens, here however due to lower voltage the motor looses more power to heating within the motor. Refer to case 4 in this link for more info.

"So, using the rotor copper loss and voltage relationship, it is found out that, for a constant load on the motor, 10% reduction in voltage can cause 23.46% increase in rotor copper losses as compared to specified ratings. Hence power consumption is on the higher side.

We have to pay for, Load power + 123.46% of full load copper loss –> Rate of consumption increasing
"

The meters that EDC are calibrated to work at 220V and power usage (V x I) is calculated on this so if the input voltage drops current draw increases but the power usage is still calculated for 220V.

The question is does EDC do this on purpose to generate extra income?

If you could install a voltage stabiliser before your power meter your power bill would be more consistant.

a rhetorical question.
