If you pay your electric bill directly to the landlord some places will charge you for the generator costs which are shared among tenants. In SHV anyway, there are blocks of flats or houses where the owners share the cost of buying the generator, but tenants pay for the running costs/fuel. That will whack your bill up a fair bit when power cuts are long and daily.
That might just be a SHV thing though - there is a long history of power cuts.

I was seven days in Kep so only refrigerator and freezer consumed electricity. The power failures in this accounting period took place daily from March 14th up to Sundays, so again about 50-60 hours.
My consumption last month 402 kwh in this month despite the cancellations and vacation 461kwh.
How can that be?
Mine was too higher then ever. Even with a week away. I understand the fridge part getting back to temperature. And a full fridge work's more effectively when full. But I am opposed to buying too much food when the temperature is up and down with power cuts. So I tend to fill it with bottles of water or beer, trying to have a cooler start when the power kicks back in. If all fails at least I can get pissed.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I’ve been trying to explain this to SWMBO. Filling empty bottles and keeping the fridge and freezer full of them if nothing else.

Our electricity bill was about 150-200% higher last month. EDC have been making some dumb meter readings recently, though, so it’s hard to demonstrate the average to them. Two months in a row, they recorded a 0 meter change, so the 3 month average was actually lower prior to this bill.

I’ve had them out checking that all is ok. Turns out our AC has chosen now to work at its worst. We’ve an engineer hopefully coming to check the gas charge. Good for me- I’m back in Europe for 5 weeks. SWMBO and sprogs have to deal with the heat.

Thank you very much for all the feedback, now I have to ask myself what is the benefit of switching off the power? Actually this should counteract the electricity deficit and save electricity.
But as I read here now exactly the opposite is the case, more electricity is consumed than without disconnection.
Or are they just measurement errors in the electricity meters in favour of EDC? Then EDC earns twice as much through the shutdowns.
Starting from the next account I will see more, since now all my devices (in particular refrigerator and freezer) with a generator continue to run and thus an additional consumption cannot develop.
But I suspect that they are the electricity meters and wonder if you have to accept that?
EDC has in this direction what the correctness of the meter readings concerns with me in the last year very strange accounts presented, my consumption rose suddenly without changes of devices or habits from an average of 390 kWh to over 600 kWh only from February normalized itself the something and my consumption went down again on 450 kWh and then 402 kWh but now again higher on 461 kWh by the power failures.

Power is the KW your meter reads

Power = Volts X Amps

Amps is the current your appliances need to run

stick some numbers in the Volt and Amp parts of the formula and see how the power reading changes... thats the effect of changes in voltage on your electric meter. Another cause is undersized supply wiring to the property - maybe if run by landlord/builder not supply company - this wiring can cause voltage drop so if the voltage at the meter is ok check it at the actual appliance input... seen this in SHV a few times where the landlord had one main supply meter on a pole and ran wires to new apartments....

There is a little calculator on this page scroll down to find The electric power triangle P = I × V (Power law PIV)

I think EDC have got some answers to give to their customers as to why customers have much higher readings for the last month yet we have had many hours of no electricity supply..
My highest in one year.
