Driving with a Thai number plate

Post by alexvanlaar »

I 'm going to move to Cambo from Thai.

I want to bring my things peu a peu to Ko Kong, then to PNH. Since I cannot drive with a Thai licence-plate FURTHER than KK province
my question:

Can I get a Cambo nr-plate for a couple of days and HOW do I do that.
Is it possible to drive all the way down to PNH then?
The car is in my name so I don't need any Thai help.

Grateful for your responses in advance!

of course you can, i have been driving my thai plated car in Cambodia since 2006
at KK they sometimes charge you 100 baht/day, sometimes they take ur thai export papers, and have heard from one person they asked for his blue book, they tell u ONLY in KK province but u can drive everywhere
enter at Osmach an its free and than u can exit anywhere

Usually I take off my front plate after border so no idiot in uniform stops me on the way to Sihaboukville or PP.

Thanx, but where do I get the Thai Export papers in Thailand ( what office) and where I have to show them in Cambo?

P.S. what is the Thai counterpart to "OSMACH"

O'smach is apx 60 ms south of Surin in Thailand. Kep Choeng is the border thai town

Thai export papers are issued at the customs office at whichever border you depart Thailand from. Cant believe you didn't get one>>>> nothing to do with entering Cambodia, only needed to get ur car back into Thailand.

To legally enter Cambodia
you need to contact the officials, ( forgot which office) in PP for the legal import paper for Cambodia, All the border officials know where to send you, I used to have a contact that would do this for you and meet u at the border with the permit ( cost about $80) but cant find. Otherwise what people have done it entered Cambodia, left their car /bike at the border, used to Phnom Penh and gotten the permit an bused back to get their car/bike.

Sorry me for my Pasaa Thai, now it'll be useless more or less. The only thing I regret!

Holy hell!

$500 lol!
They (literally) saw you coming!

Is should have been $20 at the most. I’m guessing you didn’t have a local with you?

Oh well lesson learned.

Even worse, I had a Thai-chick with me from Surin, speaking Khmer. Problem was that she was strongout this morning, talking "Khmer" with the coppers.
I am 100% sure, IF I'd been alone I'd got away with much less!!!!!! But she destroyed everthing........... I beter had kicked her out of my pickup and deal with them alone,
but as you said: Lesson learned the hard way!
