I've let my Australian driver's license lapse (annual medicals are a problem, even after handing in my truck classes) so I wonder if I could hire a car in Australia using my Cambodian license? :D
As far as I know you do not need a medical to drive trucks in OZ. I have a HC and would only need a medical if I was to drive a bus. I still get my licence classes renewed without medicals.

I have hired cars in the US and used my Cambodia licence as ID to check into hotel there in the past.

You should be able to hire a car with your Cambodia licence. My ex, went straight to a full OZ licence based on her Cambodian licence when she passed her driving test, so it was accepted by VIC Roads.

I also need to regularly update motor reg with medicals since my 2nd (corneal) graft enabled me to get my license again.

I took my car license to V-Silk to obtain a Cambodian one having just renewed my big bike license 2 months ago - I kept being told it was delayed and the agent didnt know why. I just returned from Vietnam and VS gave me my license and money back and said the Ministry are not doing car licenses at present.

So I came home and called Lucky and was told .....
  • You can renew a Cambodian license if you have one
A new one requires two trips to the Ministry but they are not sure that will be a success
This seems to apply for all classes of license
    It only applies to Barang
Maybe wait a few weeks and see what happens
The problem is I have just bought a car and paid for the insurance ---- I still have the receipt for the application which I suspect will get me thru normal porcine stops but what about an accident?

Any ideas? Heard of this before?

Cheers

No decent insurance company (oxymoron?) will insure you before you submit your licence to them.

I got a call from Lucky Lucky the other day telling me they can't process my license, same reasons. Will report more when I do the next bit.

For what?

3rd party? In which case it would have to be driven by someone with a licence. Maybe theft?
