I just got my licence here last week.

It cost me $55 in total and took about 5 days from start to finish. I used the driving school next to Rokku and it was fairly straightforward.

Did you do a physical driving test and get a 10 year licence?

No just the transfer, so needs to be renewed in a year. Once i was at the DPWT, it took about an hour before i was leaving with my license.

The 10 year one can now cost anything up to about 250, depending on how terrible a driver you are. I heard you can get the theory test and driving test all done in one day with enough perseverance. Still, i would recommend you use a broker unless you are familiar with the set-up, when i was there i saw a few very lost looking expats wandering around with no clue what was going on.

The Department of Public Works and Transport is currently going through a reform and the process for getting a licence (if your an expat) is going to become more and more difficult so i would suggest doing it sooner rather than later.

I mean physically. They used to be a nice firm credit card type card, with picture and all that. It now looks like they've gone back in time: literally a thin piece of paper you can make an airplane with. No picture either. I doubt these new ones could be used abroad.

Edit: sorry I'm stupid, it does have a picture. Just looks and feels so damn cheap.

I reckon I'll drop into a print shop and get mine laminated once I pick it up. Or at least get it copied and laminate the copy - I keep the original at home and carry a copy, so no grubby-fisted tea-money-hungry ... officer of the law ... can take the original from me. One of them showed me a pocketful of licenses he'd taken from drivers and held to ransom, he had forty or so of them, and that was a days gathering. I've learned to never hand over the original since. We also get our passport face page and visa page copy reduced and laminated for every day use.

Cambodian licenses are not recognised outside of Cambodia, and can not be used as the basis for an IDL - although this may have changed since I last looked into it.
