Re: Dealing with overstay
she has become a friend totally platonic , she needed a friend she misses her kid badly. what was presented to her as a bright future and life in USA turned into a total nightmare. I'll see her through this till the end and make sure she gets home no jail time no matter in the end what is needed to be done I guess at my age 65 can live with a car if that is what it takes she has a life of some sort in front of her and needs to get back home to her family. The plonker that caused this .... well karma will catch up to him hopefully

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I am currently writing a letter to her local congressman explaining that she was duped into coming here with a fake engagement ring naming the SOB that left her stranded and seeing if they can do anything I have however little faith in the PI Government to do anything at all
I might encourage her to return to her embassy with some proof of being abandoned. Unfortunately, Philippine embassies around the world deal with a great many "situations' where their nationals are in tough spots. And they have a decent reputation for working to help their citizens in such situations (unlike some other western countries).
About all I can add is the sooner the better - regardless of the resolution. 6 months overstay at $10 a day is $1,800.
I actually called my friend that had his Filipino girlfriend rejected from travelling on holiday. He told me the story again (admittedly its been several years). He was in his 40's and she was 32-33. They checked in for the flight (including baggage) and went through immigration. She was directed off to a special group for single women. There they asked for documented proof of funds, return airline tickets, hotel/house bookings, proof of the relationship, pictures, etc etc. He couldn't believe it. He had recently purchased a new phone for her and she had no photos of the two of them on her new phone. So aside from the travel documents they couldn't appease the woman in charge. They even tried calling her mom! She didn't answer as she was on a bus to visit her mom back in a province.
Turns out that the woman in charge actually had an option of taking his documents, making copies and having him sign a legal document taking responsibility for her on the trip (they actually did this on a subsequent trip and then kept that document for all future trips - he doesn't remember all the info he provided but they definitely copied his passport and he thinks he may have had to provide a credit card with details). You may want to ask if this is what was done.
Good Luck
What is remarkable to my friend to this day is that he was in Manila working for a large multinational company for three years - and she had worked overseas in Hong Kong previously. But they still denied her the ability to travel that day. He said he witnessed more than 20 women being denied the right to leave the country just during the two-three hours they were there. Most of them were leaving to work in the Middle East.

She’s a lady, not a fish or a bird.Cameron_Newbe wrote:No offence to the lady but @45 with an almost teenage kid and $10 a day fines racking up, shes not a great catch.
I bet the guy who abandoned her in Cambodia with with a fake engagement ring thought of her as exactly that, an animal or an object.

Any chance the local Christian churches can donate enough for her to pay the overstay and buy a ticket back home?
Missus bought the three rings in Cambodia. I saved up enough to pay for them.
Hope your friend finds a way out.

Re: Dealing with overstay
If the embassy intervenes to repatriate her to the Philippines, there will be a record of this intervention and it will be linked to her travel records. This will make her exiting the Philippines a ginormous challenge in the future.
Philippine immigration is extremely strict with vetting departures of Filipinos and this won't change in the future. The government is very proud of their tier 1 ranking on the US human trafficking report.

Thanks I have put my old car on the market, where can I go now anyway and I walk most places, it will more then cover her overstay and a one year visa to stay .
Too hard to attempt traveling back right now.
