Crossing into Thailand

Post by WildAlaskaKen »

I know its 2 a year, but I really would love to be able to run across the Poipet/Aranya border every few weeks and shop or just go to the ATM, dentist or whatever for anywhere between 5 days and three hours. Am I dreaming? Is it worth a $10 trip there just to ask Thai Immigration. I still have one for the year that I was just gonna use up next time I needed to get laid.

I assume that I should also talk to the Cambo side too so they dont wiered out.

US Citizen, old, valid retirement visa in Cambodia with passports full of ins and outs and visas and no black marks.

You can ask. Worst case scenario, they say no and you go back to Cambodian immigration to cancel your exit stamp.

@John Bingham 2 times per year land border crossings to Thailand.
@WildAlaskaKen Maybe worth to explore, if you can get a border pass - like the locals. Remember being limited to the border district
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

2 Free visa EXEMPT land entries/calendar year
You can cross as often as you like, if you have a visa

I doubt a non Cambodian or non Laos, would be able to get a border pass

FYI; Malaysian passport holders can cross as often as they wish

Local pass only allows same day travel, not overnight.

Foreigners from a 3rd country cannot get a border pass.

Opinions on whether Thai immigration is "flexible" about the two visa exempt entries per calendar year limit at land borders are mixed. There have been a few reports over the years. It might be as inconsistent as many other things with Thai immigration.

It's worth a shot, as you've got nothing to lose if you try.

If there is one border crossing to avoid its Poipet, any overlander knows. I would try Pailin or Koh Kong (there is a new-one between them in the mountains but forget the name).
If you live in PP ofcourse, coming from SR its a long drive to Koh Kong !!

He would not even get the exit stamp. Cambodian immigration are fully aware of the Thai rules.
Richard has the only answer - get a Thai visa.
