Its not the sitting outside thats creepy. Its the shorts and singlet. What choice you got? sit inside with a lot of expats feeling superior as they moan about how his khmer wife ran off with all his pension ( for the tenth time today) or sit outside and watch the real world go by

Cambodian weirdness question : Is it more "creepy"' to have a drink on riverside by yourself, or to be there with (Cambodian) family and/or friends ? (Which is also creepy according to some. Damned if you're alone, and damned if you are with locals. Just hang out with other expats and no questions asked. )

People have some strange ideas of what is creepy, IMO. But Cambodia's reputation as a hangout for perverts doesn't help.

For me, the creepiest things about riverside are the organized child begging, the homeless families, the theft, and the drug trafficking. But I don't hang around there late at night usually.

Singlets, possibly. But wearing shorts in an extremely hot and humid country is creepy now?

Do you wear suit and tie with bowler hat wherever you go or something?

This. I don't wear singlets, but I do wear a nice pair of shorts and a polo. If that is creepy, I don't care. I have to dress up for work every day, it is shorts all the way on my day off.

Most of those who would have joined me for a riverside drink have either moved on or passed on.

When with my family at the riverside, we will either get some concerned looks from both locals and others, or it's 'look at those beautiful kon gat (half caste) kids, [wow, isn't the father handsome]' etc.

I gotta admit I do tend to wear lightweight long trousers in rainy season. Keeps mossies from biting me to death. Shorts are ok in the dry season.

one of the reasons i love living over here is i don't need wear long pants or socks
Only time i wear long pants is if i am flying by airplane somewhere..

Have NEVER worn a singlet or ever plan to, ( dont have enough tats to show off)
I often have a seat on riverside and have a ice coffee if i am on a walk about
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
