Commuting to and from the KoW
This is probably going to sound a bit odd, but what the hell...
(and keep in mind that I write this after several beers, and the chance to edit it to make sense may have long gone by the time I realise how badly it reads)
I'm in the process of 'remodelling' my life...again.
Due to a lack of appropriate opportunities for me inside Cambodia, I'm faced with taking up options elsewhere in South East Asia. I can seriously consider staying with my current employer in the UK, and suffer the 18hours of travel each way every four weeks or so, but there are a few downsides to that. However, I'm also not in a rush to give the job up just yet, as it's probably one of the best positions I've had in a long while.
I've long been used to commuting long distance for work, so that's not an issue. For now, I have to stay with the notion of living in Cambodia for personal reasons.
I'm curious about other expats experience of commuting for work in the region. So If you have recent direct experience of working in or around Asia, and have been commuting regularly in the region, I'd be interested to hear (read about) your thoughts and experiences. Airlines-reliability, length of commute, etc, pitfalls
I gather there are a number of folk on this board who commute through Thailand a lot, with a stopover en-route to cambodia. I have the option of stopovers with friends en-route from the UK.
Worthwhile Job opportunities exist for me in-
Thailand (used to vacation here frequently when I couldn't be arsed with commuting to the UK from Almaty)
Vietnam
Singapore
Malaya
Hong Kong (ironically)
Kazakhstan (worked there before, but commuted form the UK)
UAE/Qatar/Oman (worked in Oman before, but commuted form the UK)
India (hated commuting through Delhi. if anywhere in asia truly epitomised all the fucktardery that exists in the old empire or world in general, Delhi is it)
Indonesia
Philippines
Korea
There are a few other places outside of SEA that i'm looking at, too. Several in africa- south, central and east
