coming into cambodia broke

Post by whereami »

when i arrived in phnompenh airport i was waiting in line to pay my visa . The guy in front of me told the immigration officers he was "6dollars short " of the 30 dollars needed . Not exactly welcoming vibe and the locals pointed off to other direction where the foreigner went to (atm)? what happens in this situation ? is there an atm and what if foreigner has no other money ? Personally , i would have been a nervous wreck , but the porener was cool as a cucumber . Very similar demeanor when your out drinking with your buddies and time to pay and split bill one guy says " i only have 9 dollars cash sorry"

I get the picture that he had money he could get with his card or something? I came through the airport about 8 years ago with only Euros and Baht. Paying for a visa in Baht was possible but I had only 900 instead of the rip off 1000 they wanted. Paying in Euros wasn't possible, so one of the immigration guys took me right through the terminal to the street to change some money, then I went back and paid in dollars. It was all pretty easy-going.

Poor bastard probably had an airport meal before the flight which cost the earth.

Up until around 2010, Pochentong was very good in that respect, then the management of the restaurants section changed...
