John Bingham wrote:The closest thing to a cinema might be a giant 75" screen in your living room. Organize some buckets of popcorn and soda. Then get half the neighborhood to come in and walk back and forth between you and the screen while uttering expletives and giggling whenever someone gets brutally murdered. It's not always that bad but you get the picture..
You haven’t enjoyed the VIP theater room yet. Just like watching a big screen movie in a big comfy home with your better half. Side by side reclining couch seats - 2 seats to a pod - with pillow and blankets provided. And unlimited soda and popcorn. Maybe 12-16 pods. No audience participation heard. Maybe speakers built into the headrests as well?

The only thing that could be a better would a theater with super giant reclining couch chairs that could fit both me and my better half in the same chair. Snuggling under a big blanket and resting on a big fluffy pillow munching away on endless popcorn and chugging away endless soda, that would be awesome. Especially since I wouldn’t be cleaning up the popcorn crumbs, cheese dust, and popcorn oil afterwards.

But since those don’t exist, the VIP room is the next best thing.

Fond memories to remember, just like the T-shirts on another thread. Until all this is over.

BTW, I only have 49 inch low-end TV. Nothing close to a 75 inch screen, and not even close to the quality of a movie theater screen. And no 8 speaker surround sound. So movie theaters are still a treat to me, something special to be shared and savored together.

You open yourself to criticism when you compare your writing to being just below the quality of writing that can be found in a thesis.

Thesis writing is very dry, scientific, packed with all the long magic words that thesis advisors approve of.

Reading a few chapters of any thesis really helps with insomnia at night.

There is a balance to be found somewhere.

I write for academic journals. "Dry, scientific."
I shitpost on Twitter. Short, sharp posts.
My posts here range between those two points. I think I am generally nicer here. Comfy.

(Bit off topic here. Back to cinema chat.)

4dx reminds me of a Disney World (Orlando Fla, maybe elsewhere) ride they had in the early 90's. You were in a lab where scientists were working on some new technology and accidentally teleported a Huge Alien into the little theater. The seats spun, misted, spritzed water, little air jets, had a little spike that came out, and jabbed you in the back (it freaking hurt). After a year or so they shut it down because of the complaints that it was too scary. Anyone here remember it?

Funny how old that tech is and it has recently been introduced into movie theaters.
I remember that ride. It was an alien that breaks out of the lab, hot air breathing on the back of your neck like the damn thing was right behind you. Some excellent 3D sound system that made you feel it was right there, growling in your ear. Then the warm water spray when the freaking alien got mad and started fighting back against the team sent in to capture/kill it. It was a great ride, especially as you were locked in your bloody chair and couldn’t scarper out of there!!!
YES, exactly. Cool, I was hoping somebody here had ridden it. It was a badass ride! Way ahead of its time.

I have not been to a 4dx movie but I have heard a lot about it. Is the 4dx experience as good as that ride was or close to it?
Still here, in country...

For someone who enjoys old black and white Jimmy Stewart movies, and white water rafting (and much in between), I’m a bit conflicted about the concept of the advent of smellevision and the mixing of it all.

One went to the cinema today. First time in ages.

Legend, at Exchange square.
I have to say, very impressed. A VIP type ticket, or whatever it was, $11.00.
That includes a very decent size popcorn in several styles. Caramel. a cold soda, and a hot/cold beverage. Coffee, which was quite nice.

Probably a bit of a cliche, I saw TopGun. Snigger as you wish.
Very pleasant service, massive seat, with full legs up recline function, call button for extra orders. Plenty of space to park all the food/drink. None of this 2 hours of torture perched on an old lumpy excuse for a seat, covered in suspicious stains, as in the UK.

I was one of only 2 in there.

Their website could use a little bit of correction as some movie times are incorrect, but otherwise excellent.
