Not when they get in your eyes!

Just stumbled down the hall of my marooned old men in the Pen guesthouse to ask my fellow expat what to do. All of this was with my eyes streaming tears (stinging pain should I open them to see the mosquitoes).

"Flush with water"

Stumble back in the towel at midnight thinking 'these little buggers are poisonous!' Stand in the shower for ten minutes blind. Open the lids. Dry off. No G.D.I, the stuff is on my towel too! Spray my eyeballs with my trusty saline nasal spray. Relief.

All I did was scrape the seeds of two medium length skinny little red chilies by spoon and hand out so my cook could add them to a dish. Hours later I am screaming murder as my etes are stabbed and my fingers are on fire.

Capsicum, nature's 'wonder drug' - go to hell.

IMO scratching certain nether regions is worse.

Obviously you didn't wash your hands very well!

Eye drops, like clear eyes or the local version in the small green bottle, are a good remedy for future reference. Also, milk...but you'll end up with your face looking like that of an actress in a Japanese bukakke flick.

Thx. That brings back happy memories where a good friend prepared us a fantastic chilli for dinner ...and then went for a piss...

20 years later, it still cracks me up. :Yahoo!:

:) Well, that happens.......the seeds of a chilly are the hottest part and it's surely not good to touch your eyes afterwards. Beside that....chilly is healthy.......one average chilly contains more vitamin C than a lemon, did you know that ??? Capsaicin (active component of chili peppers) will stick to your fingers for a long time (you can't really wipe it off). Next time just wash your paws :D

But HEY !!!

Instead of chilly you could use THAT one next time........your customers will (maybe or maybe not) appreciate it:

Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

Ha.

Happens to us all.

Many years ago,
I discovered that it is not a good idea to take your contact lenses out after chopping chillies.

Societies that eat really spicy food have crazy low rates of GI Tract cancers too. It's like daily chemo !

Never really paid much attention,
but I guess there is not the same choice of chillies in PP as in Mexico.

Just Red or Green.

In this region you traditionally find only the common "Bird's Eye Chili" aka "Thai Chili" or Capsicum annuum, (either red or green). It measures around 100,000–225,000 Scoville units.....so it can be pretty hot, but no comparison to Mexican chillies.
