Child registration process with the Sangkat
So my wife (kind of not really) has finally realised it might be a good idea to register our 3 year old baby with a birth certificate and getting his name in the family book. She wants to go home for a week which I'm not prepared to do, I will stay as long as it takes and then be on the next bus back. (13hr+ trip one way)
She seems to think I just need to write my name down and that's enough to give to the Sangkat?
Does that sound like bullshit? Or just me? I have had a massive distrust of everything she says and does for a long time. We're separated, but she verbally gave me basically sole responsibility of the child. I know that means nothing but I swore when she said that I wouldnt ever let him out of sight too long.
I'm planning to take him back to UK as soon as these hoops have been jumped through.
Anyone have experience of this? Am I being paranoid, or is it as simple as scribbling my name on a scrap of paper?
I'd assume I would at least need to provide my ID?
Thanks world

You are in for a lengthy, expensive, bureaucratic ride. 3 years?

You have 30 days, from the date of birth, to register the birth at the Sangkat. You didn't follow the law, now you have to deal with the ministry of Interior.DeparRudeAnts wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 11:38 pm So my wife (kind of not really) has finally realised it might be a good idea to register our 3 year old baby with a birth certificate and getting his name in the family book. Let your (kind of) wife call the head of the sangkat and ask for the procedure in your case. I'm sure you have to do it in Phnom Penh, I think department of identification, but I'm not sure. Poster @PSD-Kiwi can tell you I think.
As mentioned prepare for a lengthy procedure. Forget about taking him to the UK for a few months, possibly a year. First you need now is a Khmer birth certificate which will take some time and will cost you some money, next is a birth certificate from the MoFA (a week) which you can use to apply for his UK citizenship (months again?).

It sounds like BS to me , it took me diving off a balcony and meeting a nice big ( biggest ) policemanDeparRudeAnts wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 11:38 pm So my wife (kind of not really) has finally realised it might be a good idea to register our 3 year old baby with a birth certificate and getting his name in the family book. or whatever they are called when they pass policemen , to get my kid away from his mother .
Then later big bucks to get the ( i dasn’t say ) “fathers “ name off the birth certificate and mine on .
And to get the mother an i.d. card and her real name on the birth certificate so I can make him his passports .
I gave him a name that I was thinking a cambrodian could say . It means “ look “ but they still screw it up

Good luck dude, as others have said you missed the mark.
I do believe you'll have several trips to the sangkat and offices in Phnom Penh though, hope you got the dough for the trips.

That's a bit late...
Still, not latest I've seen
Prepare your balls for extortion efforts for months and it will probably get sorted eventually

That all depends on the corruption level where he is doing it and if he has deep pockets , or notJerry Atrick wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 9:26 am That's a bit late...
