Certificate of Non Impediment/Single Status/Divorce for Cambodian?

Post by wotevatreva »

Where would a Cambodian obtain a Certificate of Non Impediment / Single Status / Divorce etc. as required to marry?

How long should it take to obtain and how much should such a certificate cost?

She goes to her local Sangkat and bring one picture. Price depends, time depends, but I would say it's about 10.000r and 1-2 days.

Obtained from the applicants registered Sangkat, official fee is 10,000 Riel, time it takes to be issued depends how busy/motivated the Sangkat administrator is...can be issued on the spot in less than half an hour or could take weeks.

Best advice...don't show your foreign face or they will demand extra tea money.

Lucky her :thumb: There is actually a sub-decree which outlines all of the official Sangkat administration fees, the "Certificate of celibacy, widowhood and divorce" is listed as 10,000 Riel. One of the only documents that isn't listed in the sub-decree is the "Certificate of Residence" for foreigners, there is no standard fee, or even format, for this document.

The clerk of my Sangkat told me the official fee is 6.000r for that one, and charged me accordingly. However, before presenting it to the sangkat they wanted me to report with the village chief first and have him fill in all the details. He was more greedy demanding 10k riel for his ink (had to fill it in myself since villagechief can not write Latin script...). And yes, every Sangkat uses another format, but all are accepted so it seems. Many areas in Cambodia still have no streets or housenumbers so those are missing in their format. In my 'certificate of residence' they put the name of the village, my name, my d.o.b., names and age (....) of my parents, a picture, and the holy grail - the stamp and signature from the big Sangkat man. They also told me the validity is only 3 months.

^ Correct, only valid for 3 months...so whatever you need to use it for, get it done within that 3 months.

Thanks those posting.
What happened was far better than anticipated.
A policeman friend of the applicant went to the Sangkat on her behalf.
She had the Certificae later the same day for $55 ..........plus $5 for a cup of coffee and a pair of shoes from Australia for her policeman friend if she ever gets there.
There were reasons that could have delayed the issue of this Certificate indefinitely......but fortunately luck or Karma has been kind.

Wow!...That's the most I've ever heard of anyone paying for the "Certificate of celibacy, widowhood and divorce", that's about 5 cases of beer for the copper and his mates.

Glad to hear you got it sorted though.
