Cellcard and Metfone

Post by Bern »

Greetings! I've been to Cambodia a few times and just randomly bought a Sim at the airport and then often found I had the wrong Sim or the wrong plan. So for this 4 month trip I've been researching Sims a bit and this is what I've come up with to suit my needs but would appreciate it if you would point out if I'm missing something. :beer3:

It seems like it will be easiest for me to sort thing sort at the airport so trying to figure out in advance exactly what I want.

For my primary Sim I thinking about the Cellcard Regular Plan https://www.cellcard.com.kh/en/prepaid-plans/regular/ paired with Osja Exchange http://www.cellcard.com.kh/en/add-ons/osja-xchange/ .

If I'm reading this correctly at the airport I'll pay 2 USD for the Sim and 2 USD for a top up giving my Sim 15 days of validity. After activating the Sim, I use 1 USD of my credit on Osja Exchange so that my calls, texts, and internet are affordable and will need to use this add on every 14 days. So it seems I'll be spending about 4 USD a month buying top up cards around town not including the price of the Sim. I'm hoping that I can buy a regular Sim at the airport because their website says Tourist Sims and Thom Thom are not compatible with the Osja Exchange Add Ons.

Last year, I found Cellcard's coverage better than Smart so figure I'll use Cellcard again though I was on the wrong plan last year.

For my secondary Sim, I am planning on Metfone's 4ever plan because I won't have to keep topping up a Sim that I rarely use.

Please let me know if I'm missing something or you think I might have better alternatives.

No reception any more. They cancelled the SIM.

For a while I was sending a text to myself every other month to keep it alive, but my phone died and I bought a new one, which turned out couldn't use two SIMS plus a memory card all at the same time, so I ordered a special adapter and in the meantime I missed the 60 day deadline. Thanks for asking.

Look on the website. I use the unlimited data plan. I think I get 2gb fast for $3 per month. Dial *133# then choose option, all option s are also on website, much easier to look there
