Cambodian I D Card
Where do they go to get a Cambodian ID card? I read a while back where HE said they are free. Any links to the official blaa blaa
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Eligible pers need to go their registered Sangkat to apply for their National ID. They were free for a period, but the official fee is 10,000 Riel. Take birth cert, family book and/or carnet de residence.

Re: Cambodian I D Card
You have to go to where you were originally registered for a replacement. So if you were born in Ratatanakiri 40 years ago, moved to Phnom Penh when you were 5, and you lose your card now, enjoy the trip.
Re: Cambodian I D Card
As per usual, individuals experiences will vary.
Should be no need to return to the Sangkat where one was initially registered, as long as they are officially registered with their current Sangkat.
The problem is, many people/families move from the province to the city but fail to register in their new Sangkat, therefore any time they need to complete any Sangkat level administration they need to return to where they are registered which is usually where they were born.

We live in Malaysia. My Cambodian wife's ID is either expired or missing. She's in PP now and went to a government office where they told her some story about needing to have it made in Vietnam and it would cost $500. The next day she went to the Sangkat with her family book and passport and was told that "the paper" was 10,000 Riel, but the ID card would be $360.
This is ridiculous. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how she can get a new ID card without getting ripped off like this. We're in a bind as she needs a new passport as hers only has a year left. TIA

Re: Cambodian I D Card
I've heard about these extortionate prices for replacement ID cards for a long time, so it's not just her being singled out.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: Cambodian I D Card
They're trying to take her for a ride, that's just fookin cheeky!
Does she have her birth certificate, Carnet de Residence and/Or family book? If so.then just apply for new passport with those documents and her current passport, National ID won't be required.

Yes, she had her family book when she went to the Sangkat. I assumed it was exorbitant tea money because of the two different prices. I'm just not sure how to get around it. It's not like you can just call the cops

If you're not sure how to get around it, then I would suggest reading PSD-Kiwi's post again.
Re: Cambodian I D Card
As UT said, read my post again.
Another way around it is for your wife to flood social media, contact the local media like Fresh News, etc., has worked for others.
Or go to the Anti Corruption Unit, or a lawyer.
Personally I'd advise to just forget the National ID, especially if not living in Cambodia. Passports all she really needs.
