What your GF if telling you has nothing to do with breakfast. This is shit test 101.

If you want to keep your GF happy let her know she is welcome to eat anywhere she wants (by herself that she can pay for), and head down to your fav breakfast spot as per usual. She will come, or she will leave you (which sounds like she is well on her way to do anyways).

Eh, I'll take my chances with acting in good faith: I've found that it works more often than people give it credit for, and whenever it doesn't, I still have the high ground as a consolation prize.

Is your girlfriend Khmer? If yes...then she wants to eat Khmer style breakfast, not Western style, that's probably why she's "in revolt".

Live dangerously for a change Notdangerousatalldave! ...try some local food, it won't kill you, well it might make you a little sick at first if you've got a weak stomach, and may well end up killing you if you're really weak, but hey we all gotta die sometime.

You are trying to decide where your girlfriend will be happy.

Let your girlfriend tell you where she will be happy

If you are happy there too, problem solved.

Must be a short walk from 63 and 184, ideally not to the north because the GF works at the Prince Phnom Penh Tower.

Try walking down 184 across Norodom towards 19, or north on 63 and around Psah Tom Thmei. Check the alleyways.

Thank you! That's a reply that I can actually do something with! :D

Most of the previous replies wouldn't have been wide of the mark in general but they don't quite fit the situation, on account of details that I didn't share (or too many that I did, trying to make a narrative out of it), so let me clarify:

(1) She's not Khmer; she's Chinese-Malaysian, so wanting local food specifically isn't a high priority, at least for her.

(2) Neither of us has any clear idea what we'd like or want -- which if she did, would make things easier, but would also greatly reduce the efficacy of seeking recommendations.

(3) I'd hoped that someone either (a) doesn't live far from here, and/or (b) had a generically positive experience with a breakfast not far from here. The GF has to deal with a strict on-time-arrival policy at her job, so the best / most helpful responses would be structured like, "Morty's Venezuelan Salad Bar and Brownie Factory at 19 and 178 serves a great raw oyster consomme from six to eight, but you have to get there early if you want a seat."

In other words, I'm looking for a recommendation for a nearby restaurant.

Decent, affordable, open at breakfasttime, and walkable from the corner of 63 and 184.

Thanks!

PS: I've resisted responding to the doesn't-know-how-to-cross-the-street narrative, not least because repeating myself about it seems like it would only invite more of ... well, whatever this is supposed to be, here. But once more for the cheap seats way in the back: There's a knack, albeit a subtle one perhaps, for crossing a busy street in London, and the same exact set of cultural expectations would get you arrested in Stuttgart, maimed in Paris, flattened in Rome, and shot by firing squad in Zurich.

I, never, said, that, I, don't, know, how, or, am, afraid, to, cross, a, street. I asked for thoughts that anyone might have on the regional peculiarlities -- which, admittedly, isn't nearly as fun to refuse to let go of after eighteen months like this, because it's actually a perfectly reasonable thing to ask.

Isn't Wau nearby? Malaysian place on 63 below 184. Surely they're open early for a nasi lemak.

You know what? They deserve a fair hearing. I went there exactly one time -- for lunch -- and I was miserable because (a) I had just stormed out of Ken's Asylum after sitting there for over an hour without so much as an apology from the waiter, much less any food, and (b) it was raining so hard that between Ken's and Wau, I got completely sodden.

I think we have a winner -- assuming they're open for breakfast.
