Best Medical Care Center/Hospital
Best Medical Care Center/Hospital
Does anyone have info on where there is a good place to get minor surgery done(hernia) in PP or anywhere else in the Kingdom? is Thai/Viet still the best option now?

Central Hospital http://www.central-hospital.com/ch/
You could start with Dr. Chea Pov, he will probably refer you to Dr Long Khieun, who is the surgeon on call and is very good.
Best to go weekdays in the morning before 11.30 am.

Re: Best Medical Care Center/Hospital
I had a terrible time finding a hernia specialist. I ended up going to South Korea for the operation. But I also had a severe hernia.
Even though its classified as minor surgery - done wrong you can end up with pain for life. Make sure you find out how many hernia operations they do a month. If its not at least two a week I'd pass. I have a good friend in the US that is a surgeon and he told me to find a specialist as its a complex area of the body and somewhere around 10-15% of people have serious post operation pain. He was not a big fan of the mesh that is now used and told me that there is an increasing number of people having a 2nd surgery to take out mesh that is either causing pain or leads to infections.
There were a couple of surgeons in BKK that had decent reputations but they didn't specialize and for whatever reason the hospitals refused to share how many hernia operations they did a year. I no longer have their names but one was with Bangkok Hospital group and the other with Bumrungrad.

im sorry to hear of your ordeal in the search, point taken on finding surgeons with a proven track record in that area of surgery, did you get the mesh?
Re: Best Medical Care Center/Hospital
No, I was cut open and had the hernia repaired. The risk is a re-occurrence. The positive is that there was no mesh. The recovery was longer though.
If it happens again in the same area then I'll have little choice but to have the mesh inserted (which doesn't actually repair the hernia it just holds everything in place). I found two highly recommended hernia specialists in the US if you'd like their name - but without US insurance the cost would be excessive.
If you'd the name of the doctor in Korea that I went with let me know and I can try to dig up some contact information. He has what we'd call a surgical center focusing on hernia operations and he also has a staff that provides basic health care to the locals.

I got my hernia fixed for free with no problems plus incapacity benefits back when I lived in England. God bless the NHS.
If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!
This.
